Welcome home, you will like it here. I burn white spruce almost exclusively. Will burn white birch and silver poplar when I can get it.

This is white spruce cut Tuesday standing dead, beetle kill. 2DE84B22-A1DE-4C64-8A4F-78F04B9E34A0.jpeg

Welcome to the club MaineMtnMan! Dont be afraid of pine and if anyone says it will cause a chimney fire ignore them. Properly dried pine will be just fine. I burn other softwoods as well as pine but some of us burn pine exclusively. It does burn hotter than many other wood out there so keep an eye on those stove top temps. Like others have said if you find any standing dead pine there is a good chance you will be able to find some under 20% moisture content.

Us folkl out in the intermountain west burn lots o pine. In some places its all you can get. Like dennis said just make sure its dry. Imho standing dead pine is always better than stuff thats been on the ground.

Welcome, from a relocated Mainer! I always liked the farm country in that part of the state.

Yeah, the western mtns are one of my favorite areas. I grew up on a farm down near Portland - too flat and now way too many people.

Welcome! I remember when I only read one, the front page to this site. A nice glance and I was looking forward to posting more than I care to remember. You’ll be like a duck in the water soon enough. Ask many questions, you’re just perpetuating the site as you do that!
