Welcome to the Addiction, Wanefree! Looks like you caught the bug from the git-go. Your gonna have lottsa fun here.
As others have said, you sir have a sickness! Also if you came here for help, sorry we are all enablers. However with climate change, you never know I could just come blizzard in Florida someday. So welcome to the mix.
Welcome Wanefree ... yes you have an addiction.. it's OK.. it's a great way to get exercise and not too illegal.. however some neighbors complain about chainsaws in early morning hours Now on to some wife advice.. she might be the logical one but when there is a freezing rain event and you loose power or a cool damp in the winter you know rainy and 50 and you light that fire and give her a nice glass of wine (or her preferred beverage) you will be a hero.. then just explain that wet wood doesn't burn well and you were planning ahead to take care of her.. til then keep going!
I told her I was prepping for the "Arctic Blast Of 2017/2018". My 14 yr old must have googled it cause he asked "where did you read about?" I told him - Shhh
Nice to see another Florida member Wanefree , you certainly found your passion. As far as your wife thinking you're crazy now, wait till you get 10 or 15 cords.
a you laugh, 2 years ago.. my cousin (grew up in VT) got stuck in an ice storm in Atlanta for 3 hours.... he called me (he really should know better) my response your an idiot.. him well ya can't buy snow tires down here.. ya got the internet? get a cheap set of tire chains for 40 bucks.. hang then on a wall in your garage for the 1 time in 4 years you need them... if ya can't do that at least STAY home!
Welcome to the forum Wanefree. That's a lot of tools for not needing a whole lot of wood. The thought did occur to me that perhaps you could set a trend and take a week's vacation in, say, December or January and head up north to helps out a few lad on their wood cutting. That would certainly feed your addiction! Have fun!
Yeah, might be a state record down there! at least for non tree service types I was gonna say the same cuz GTG attendance gotta be a lil sparse in Fla...may get one guy though...what's the other Fla guys name...can't remember right now...(CRS) Edit: TripleF ...thats who I meant...thats your Fellow Flaudah Haudah...
Oh Man. You mean up where you don't start sweating profusely the minute you put on chaps? Dang you guys definitely know how to stoke the fire..
Shoot, I've cut in January wearing Carharts and fully insulated everything, snotcicles hanging, no sweatin but you start freezin up the second you stop moving...good times!
Welcome to da club wanefree. Soon you will feel the need for a 372xp or dolmar7910, bigger saw bigger bar more chips flying. You got the bug, rehab is out of the question.
With all those tools, er, toys you bought. I don't suppose any time soon you'l be getting a snowblower for that " Arctic blast " that's coming along.
Well, we can still sweat but prefer not too as we do our cutting during winter months and if you sweat, you also can get very cold as you are probably very aware. We also take extra gloves with us to the woods and these aren't the little thin things either; pile lined we've found best. One of my tricks too is to take an extra pair but also put some soapstone blocks inside the extra pair to keep them nice and toasty warm. Dang, that really feels good when your hands get cold and/or wet. Shoot, we've also been known to take a Mr Buddy heater with us to the woods, especially when the wife is along to help.
I've been out many times in single digit temps, started out with the heavy coat and hat. Soon ending up with just a shirt and sweating cause we were working so hard. All is good if you keep working, If you stop for ten minutes the coat goes right back on, as the cold gets right back at you.As long as there is no wind, then maybe the coat never came off.
Welcome to the forum Wanefree appears you have a bad case of hoarding going on where very few burn lol..
