pjcalla don't sell that 290 short. You can cut lots of wood with it. If you are in a hurry (and you should never be when cutting) then a bigger saw can work wonders but the 290 can and will cut lots of wood for you. We cut up to 32" diameter with our 16" bar on the 290 and get along just fine so long as we keep the chain sharp. However, I did just buy a 20" bar for it but have yet to put it on. That will be done soon but not for cutting big diameter logs; it is just so I won't have to bend so much when trimming.
20-25" is good size. I struggle with anything bigger as its hard to load/unload from the sawmill/trailer ect... We were all noobs once! I still dont know what im doing, thats why im here asking questions.
