Welcome from another newbie to the site, although I would consider myself a semi-pro on the actually hoarding and burning side. From PA here, but I've been in Indiana many times!
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm slowly making my way through the first set of rounds. I have a toddler at home, so devoting any significant time to splitting isn't really feasible. Since my processing site is between my garage and my truck, I whack a couple rounds each time I walk by. Small steps, but it's what works for me. Here is a pic from this morning, while I was waiting for my truck to warm up. The snow beat me to getting a cover on it, but I'm not concerned since this is for burning when I finally get my stove/insert in a year or two (at least).
You're right...it all adds up. Key is to just keep at it when you can. I love to go out after work and thwack a few to de-stress. Heck sometimes I even use a maul instead of my bare hands....hiya!!!
Welcome pjcalla and bang - You're gonna like it here, I guarantee it and I will echo Sir Savage in that I would highly recommend consulting/perusing the Woodstock Soapstone site for their offerings and informative material. Customer service is top-shelf-before, during and after the sale....Enjoy the ride guys-Nice to meet ya
How old is your toddler, my boys (2 & 4) all love to help with the wood. Either holding the door open for me when hauling it in or stacking. They even like to shovel the splitter swarf when I'm done splitting. And of course tractor rides to dump all the bark and chips out-back!
My boy (7) loves to run the ram when I'm out at the wood pile, can be a little challenging to get a rhythm going but he's learning to do it the right way......VERTICAL He also is mastering the art of splitting kindling with the Fiskars.
He's 3. Don't get me wrong, he loves helping. He carries wood inside to the fireplace, helps arrange the splits, adds kindling and makes my "torch" to get the draft started. It's just hard to grab a few hours to myself to get things done. Heck, he even power washes the outdoor furniture when it's time to put it away for the winter. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Welcome to the group you'll fit in and getting bit by the hoarding bug is a thing I know I've got it bad!! Love your set up I started out like that. If you'll be hand splitting like myself you should try using a tire I've saved myself alot of running and bending splitting that way!
Wisdom! Have you tried to make kindling with the hydraulics yet? It works fantastically and is super fast.
