I suggest something like this, using this type of setup you'll get an idea of how you need to sharpen the chain, you can get little kits like this also in just 1 size with a raker gauge, this is just an example. Do some homework searching, plenty of videos and information on hand sharpening

I've never used one of those filing kits before. I like the file n joint sharpener. Once you get it setup right it makes a nice chain. Keeps all your cutters the same angle. [IMG]

The cheapest place i found chains was amazon.
My local dealer wanted 30.00 for one chain.
I bought 3 chains for 33.00 off amazon.
It's chinese but I've been using the first chain since spring.
It's held up as good as any name chain i ran stihl chain for 30 years.
Echo saws has a different drive link count compared to husky or stihl.
If you have to buy chain remember that.
The amazon chain will fit you're saw.

While you’re shopping for chains ,also check out Oregon Chainsaw Chain Guide Bar and Sprocket at Discount prices . Decent prices and reasonable shipping rates . While I'm spending your money , get a couple of felling wedges . They can get you out of trouble if you pinch your bar . PPE is well worth looking at as well .
Enjoy your new saw ! ! !:salute:

I found my file n joint at a garage sale for 50 cents.. It's about wore out. I'm planning on buying a new one then try to put my piece off mine that holds the file onto the new one. It's the older version thst can hold a double bevel square chain file. Thst way I can make my square chain more gooder...

I noticed it looked it like it held a double bevel. 50cents was a heck of a deal. My dad found one at a tractor show in the flea market for $2. It was a Sears and Roebuck file-n-joint. Do you get good results from the double bevel in the granberg?

    Pickle room!

Awesome. I'll use that term in a sentence.

" When making Bloody Mary's, there's always pickle room."

Nice pick up on the new 590 for $400. That's hard to go wrong for that price.

Yes, I've been in the place where a couple of felling wedges would have gotten be out of trouble. I've asked for them for stocking stuffers, and I never get them. Then again, it took me like 10 years to get the garage creeper I wanted....

Is either a Nygran or a Granberg. Measure the rod that it slides on and let me know the size. I'll measure my Granberg and Oregon and let you know if it will work with either one.

I have an Granberg file n joint also, and it does an excellent job getting a chain good and sharp especially if you set it at 10 and 30 degrees, but I think the single file holders are much simpler and require less knowledge of chain sharpening for a beginner, BTDT:)
