Okay, the final beauty shot. Well almost. Got the shorter slip piece of double wall and the cool new ceiling box adapter in the mail and bolted up this weekend. Even reinstalled the probe meter since I just really like to watch flue gas temps.

We are ready to burn now. The more artsy folks would notice that I haven't dolled up the skirt yet. That's coming and will most likely be oak, stained and poly applied.

Tonight. I had all the windows open this weekend as it was above 80 every day but now it's 65 in the house. I did burn a paper towel for the kids. I need a small fire to burn off any paint fumes from the double wall.

I also tightened the bypass adjustment bolt and applied high temp antisieze to the bypass mechanism before bolting on the flue. The lube really smoothed out the bypass.

    I really like that stove.
Looks very nice up there. Should provide a bit better view of the "fire".:picard::D

Nope. The BK has side shields and the TV is WAY outside of the minimum clearance to combustibles.

I had that first fire last night and may have taken a picture for papadave but this is a BK, there was no visible fire so it looks just like the above photo!

I knew there wasn't much point. This is one of those times where the lack of a pic isn't a problem.
I still want a BK at some point, but I'll have to open the air for a bit so my wife can see fire for a minute.

There really is a good flame show during warm up at full throttle and even for awhile after cat engagement until the stove heats up but after I shut it down to cruise temp the firebox just has a glow from the cat and from the coals. The new steelcat sure does go from black to orange fast.

The elevated hearth does make it easier to see the fire. A little harder to see the TV from the dinner table which is fine with me.

Yep, mine's 12" and I wish I could have gone a little higher.
Nice to know there's a fireshow for a while.

because it was chilly? or to burn off paint from new stove parts? I know your in the lower foothills of Pierce County but I did not think it was cold enough to get a fire going already

Both. The new double wall did make a bit of a stink but we didn't open windows or anything. It was 63 in the house and each of the last two mornings were 40 degrees outside. I'm at about 750' ASL in the Buckley/Enumclaw area. Too warm out for constant burning but we had a nice 14 hour burn last night to keep the house in the 70s. I heat 100% with wood so if the house is cold, there will be a fire and that can happen when it is quite warm out.

I did basically the same thing when I put my stove up on my hearth, only I used 8 by 16 by 4 inch thick bricks, and a farm jack to get it up 12 inches,, and I had furniture sliders under the legs

    Highbeam , any updates?
Been looking on CL for a Princess. Found a few older BKs, but nothing I'd want.

She's burning daily. Still wood skirt while I wrap up outside projects, pouring concrete and growing grass before the wet season. The new BK has gotten rid of the numbers on the thermostat, a mistake IMO.

I did connect the OAK plumbing. I was able to acquire a Canadian OAK adapter that is 4" vs. the US 3" version. That made it easy to connect to my 4" duct with a premade semirigid dryer vent piece. 4" looks really big but I know it's not a restriction and I can easily replace the semirigid piece if it gets smashed.
