I got mine two weeks ago. The only reason is that my wife does our taxes. If I were doing them, I know they wouldn't be done yet, and we would probably owe!

I hear ya. When a guy already has 3 mauls AND a gas splitter do I really NEED another maul? And to think I started burning wood again to save money. Lol. I enjoy the sport and the toys though!

I clicked two more times. I'll report back with results in two weeks. In the meantime I'll take comfort knowing my house is 74 in 10 degree weather from the effort and tools/toys. Thanks for the push boys. I should probably spray some wd-40 on the speeco 22 ton splitter tomorrow too.

I cracked yet another wood handle on my cheap 8lb maul. So I went to my locally owned and True Value...you know the one right down the road...the one that stocks all the nuts, bolts, screws and doodads that you just gotta have right now to finish that project your working on...the one owned and staffed by your friends and neighbors who pay the same taxes you do to keep the roads clear the garbage taken care of and the kids in school, the same people who buy Girl Scout cookies from your daughter even though they don't want too...the one that if it went out of business would really suck. Well they had new wooden maul handles, but they also carry Fiskars, so I asked them to order one up, didn't even ask how much. Low and behold, two days later they called me up, the maul was ready to pick up...$59.99

Works better than the cheap 8lb maul ever did and if the thing ever breaks, Fiskars will send me a new one...whata deal!

I'm liking the grippy orange part of the handle, the last thing I want is for the thing to slip outa my hands.

Couple more pics for you with the x27 and a cheap 8lb maul for comparison.

Nice! And you didn't have to pay the shipping and get the suboptimal packaging mine had!

And my local hardware store is exactly like you described. Great people, great service, and been there forever. The only difference is they changed from True Value to DoITbest years ago and the closest one to me is now 30 minutes away darn it! They may carry them eventually but I am impatient I guess. Enter the ease of the Internet for better or worse.
Anyhow the isocore splits well! I used it for an hour or better last night and it is not scared of knots or big rounds! Fun. For regular splits I think the x27 will be faster, but when breaking bigger wheels this works better than the old 8lber for sure! And now for a few pics!:

Yep, wasn't trying to bust on you for not buying local, sometimes the internet order is what works best, but sometimes it makes it too easy to forget about the guy down the street.

I've been using mine for about three weeks now and I like it better every time I use it. Haven't found anything it won't bust yet, even some bigger Red Elm rounds. I think the ISO maul and the X27 together will handle just about anything.

I can add to the praises of the Isocore too. I've had mine for a couple of weeks, bought it direct from Fiskars. I like it. I tend to wear rubber bottom gloves when I'm working with wood and like someone mentioned, the orange grip stuck too bad. Splitting bare handed though wasn't too bad. I used it on some 20+" red oak rounds and it was great. Most of them I can crack with my X27, but having this puppy allows me to half them quicker then switch out to the X27. It's not something you want to swing all day for sure. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a maul.

I'm surprised that your maul survived being shipped by fedex.
Those guys could destroy an anvil.
Perhaps this is a testament to the durability of the Fiskars iso-core?

My isocore maul was delivered yesterday.
The packaging was different than in the earlier photo...
Mine had a cardboard box taped to the head of the maul!
    I wish I had taken a pic!
Mine was shipped by fedex too, and it arrived here undamaged.
That's at least 2 shipments that fedex has managed not to destroy.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy...I just bought one at our local CT ($79 spyrograph money). Going out to try it out today, if I don't slip on the ice and break my neck. Can't wait, well I'm going to have another coffee first. And we get another snow storm tonight...yay....yippee....yahoo.....

Well I used the new maul and as good as the X27 is, this will definitely finish what the 27 can't. I can honestly say I haven't spent the better part of a hundred bucks on anything more useful.
    It works very well.
Oh and I almost fell several times. I wanted to get some salt, but after yesterdays ice rain storm, no one within a thousand miles apparently has any, and I used up all my stove ashes. Drat.

I finally ran up against something the ole ISO CORE couldn't bust. I was cutting up a wild pecan tree and had some rounds that were 20"+ diameter and 16" long. The ISO just bounced. Pretty tough stuff that is for sure.

Pecan can be a nightmare. I ended up noodling a lot of the last one I cut.
