   While in Europe, I was amazed to be walking through buildings that were constructed in the 12th century (1,100 A.D) or earlier. A subtle reminder of how North American history is relatively recent to much of the world.

   the oldest buildings in our town might be from 1950s. Our West coast area didn't see European settlers much before 1880s and anything they built wasn't permanent.
