I bought a pole saw last weekend. I have a few small jobs that would be made much easier with a gas powered unit. I looked at the stihl units and I am familiar with the four mix engines, I have a FS 110 brush cutter/weed eater. I did not care for the telescoping pole, it looked more flimsy compared to the echo. The chain is a 3/8 .050. The echo has some epa mandated junk on it. I would like to remove the catalyst, from the muffler, it creates a large amount of heat. I need to buy a small d adjustment tool or make one out of a roll pin or something similar. It has a walbro WYG-9 carb. Not sure if the carb will run out of adjustment if I remove the cat. I'm not sure if it is even worth messing with, its not like ill be cutting cord wood with it. So far I like it, I ran it for a few hours last Saturday. My driveway and deer trails are looking better already.
It’s a pole saw and there great if you remove branch’s over head wear a helmet when I first started using my new pole saw a large branch I cut fell on me knocking me and the pole saw flat on the ground if not for the safety helmet don’t think I would be alive today.
I always wear a helmet when I use my saws. The pruner came with a shoulder strap which I am not going to use. It would be easier to spread the weight across my shoulder as opposed to just holding it with my hands. But if something went really wrong and a larger branch fell on the pole it would take me down with it. If the saw gets broken that is unfortunate but I’m ok with that as long as I’m not teathered to it.
Looked at the gas units, Echo first choice, but just couldn't justify the money so picked up a DeWalt 20V. Seems to do a nice job and meets my needs. You will get a lot of miles out of that unit, what size bar does it have?
