Except for one going up here….It abuts a very nice upscale neighborhood. The homeowners are rightfully p*****! It is well established and older with very expensive properties.
Not necessarily the taxpayers, but they are also ratepayers and it will be the ratepayers who pay. In some places the data centers get an easy in because they use very little town resources compared to the taxes they pay. A bit of a cash cow. As a ratepayer here in Mass it is disgusting what us residents are paying for on our electric bills. And I'll leave it at that.
Yep, good point! Ratepayers is a better description! However, the taxpayers still get shafted with the FILOT arrangement.
Skier Everyone seems to worry about China; I don’t 40 years of single child policy with population replacement at 2.2 births will solve problems through demographic decline. India is far bigger challenge in future.
It's opposite here, giant wind farms and a TerraPower nuclear plant won't pay taxes for 40 years or something insane.
Somewhere out west there are supposedly plans for a 40,000 ACRE data center. If true, that's insane. I can't even fathom how it will be used, I mean, just how much data is there ?
Every reply on the internet… Used to need court order to tap a phone.. now it’s in every user agreement
Exactly, and it doesn't have to be on the internet, just on your digital device or anything your "smart" devices and vehicle come into contact with. Every phone call, every text, every picture taken, every screen shot. Unless you go and search out settings after every SW or HW update, "agreements" are being turned back on. This is the same "opt-in" wars that were fought a long time ago.
