And another question for NZ 3000 owners. I’m looking at the catalyst version. Would that be the NZ3000h or NZ3000eco or both?
Scotty Overkill is yours a catalyst?

Keep in mind that you can only use the wood stove with door open if stove specs say you can do so. Otherwise you can do damage to stove and chimney.

Not quite sure I understand what your trying to say there.
On a zero clearance fireplace install, like the nz3000 for instance, which is essentially a wood stove that has similarities to an insert, what specs under what conditions?

I thought in the original post you mentioned burning with the door open for a fireplace effect. I may have read that wrong.
If I read that correctly though, not all stoves allow open door burning (with a screen of course).

My bad! I misinterpreted what you were trying to say. The open door effect is a wifey thing, this is where I got lost. My purpose for all of this is getting an efficient wood burner into place with the aesthetic appeal for her. Also, The ability to occasionally open the doors for what looks like a fireplace.
Your right, I have yet to check into that yet.

My trip up north was pretty good. I learned of a new line of zero clearance stoves called X Fireplace, XtrordinAir. They make a few models with catalysts with decent burn times at a price just under $5k. The only thing I didn’t see was any secondary burn tubes. The firebox gets the cat to temp and you open the bypass and regulate the air.
I also saw Scotty’s unit at a Napoleon dealer in the same area. I can tell it’s a much better built unit in comparison. They are looking for $1k more for that stove.
I’m glad I got a look at these stoves, they both would fit my needs for the winter of 21-22. The I’ll look around some more, get tips from guys in the forum and finally narrow things down by spring next year.

If we were building again , AND money was not tight, I would have seriously investigated a Russian/Masonry Fireplace.
Those who have them in our northern cold region love their steady and efficient 24/7 heat. A single fire each day.
The structure has to be built around them. They are not inexpensive because of construction costs.
For real heat however, delete inserts. Most free standing stoves have open "glass" viewing or option to open a front opening for your
    romance and entertainment fires.

Seen one in action in person at friends of my in laws for a Christmas party last year- the guy who was running it said "I don't use the catalyzer because it puts off too much heat, I just use the dampner."
So, I nodded and walked away to focus on the beers he had for the party because I could sense there was almost no way a conversation about it would work out in my favor. But, the Xtrodinair was beautiful, quite large and despite his..... technique..... it was impressive with the heat.
