showed my young helpers how a chain is replaced on a saw, and my sharpened chained wouldnt seat in the groove on one side. We were cutting with my neighbor, who was back in the woods. I took the smaller Stihl and met up with him. He said sometimes there is an issue with the chain, rather than the bar. Made sense as my Husky bar has about ten hours use I have three chains for it, and have them sharpened at a shop-i never put a file one them, so he doesnt have to grind out my butchery. Sure enough, the other chain is fine, and the dull one fit fine too. Took it to my sharpener, and he confirmed sometimes the chain will get imperfections. Always learning something playing with the toys.
Drive links on the chain can sometimes get dinged or mushroomed a bit & cause that. Just falls in the "stuff" happens category. File em off & carry on.
Ive had a chain get bent after trying to pull it out of a bind. Wouldnt ride smoothly in the groove. Still have the chain. Does anyone know if it could be saved or is it trash?
Depends on how bad it's bent. If kinked on a 45, I'd scrap it as straightening it could weaken it. If it's just a little, try bending it back right where it's bent. Sometimes when the chain gets thrown off, the drive links get burrs on them. Most of the time I believe this is what happens when a chain won't fit back in
