Mmmm. Mmmm WiFi Testing snowbanks Pulled the sportsman out of the snow bank. I'll pull it onto the trailer with the kodiak tomorrow. I'll need mom's help to drive the kodiak For that.
Dinner was awesome. I've been jonesing for the boomba burger for a year now. More fun to happen tomorrow with the new ATV. Pulling the 900 lb sportsman onto the trailer will be a little feat, but I have it on a slight downhill grade. So gravity will help, Mom will operate the kodiak, and I'll steer and operate brakes on the sportsman to get it onto the trailer.
It's either a 1/3, 1/2, and they now make a 1/2 lb burger, on a locally made bun, with cheese, raw onion, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I put a little ketchup on top of the burger too. Just a local bar, that makes these, and great Old Fashioneds. All the food is homemade there.
Especially the 1 lb'ers. I had a 1/3 lb one with fries. Years ago I used to get the half lb one. No more.
Nope. I drove. I was totally fine. The sportsman was parked behind her car, and I wasn't going to move that 800+ lb beast any more than I had to. I wouldn't let Mom drive my truck either. I went over the controls this am again with her. She rode the ATV around a bit this am, after I got it stuck in the snow off the trail where I packed out down with the snowmobile. I got it stuck in 2wd, popped it into 4wd, and then all 4 tires dug down to dirt. The skid plates are smooth and have no protruding fasteners, they are all flush or recessed and it really slides over the snow very well. It's light enough, 650lbs or so, and I was able to lift each rear corner up by the rack and kick and pack snow under the tires. I had it unstuck in a minute. There, I broke it in well by getting it stuck. This am,I transferred the front storage bin from the sportsman to the kodiak. Mom will like that. She can put her cell phone, hat, etc in there and it will stay dry. That little locker has a gasket and even a lock, in addition to the clasps. Kolpin makes it. Fits perfectly. With no extra headlight on the bars up top like on the sportsman, it makes more sense on the kodiak than the sportsman. They do make a front case that is lower for use on models with the headlight on the bars. Eh, a little snow on the front case.. no biggie. It'll melt. I also routed the trickle charger cord that the dealership installed, they do this to all new units which is smart. By routing the charger cord under the left side, it's away from all moving items, as well as the exhaust pipe. I found one of the automatic maintainer chargers and guy it all set for Mom in the garage, right next to her SUV where we cleared the parking spot. I'm just trying to get her as familiar as I can get her with it with limited time.
Sportsman loaded up. We pushed it down the slight hill and up the ramp in neutral. Not bad.. I pushed it off the trailer at my buddy's house. We'll get it fixed up.
I'll start a thread, but the regulator and maybe the stator. Battery of course as well. Should be it.
Stator would be unusual on a quad, so would a regulator for that matter...but then again I'm not up to speed on common Polaris issues as much either. Do a voltage output test on the stator...relying on the ohm test will often lead you down the wrong road...unless it is conclusive, like totally open, or shorted to ground.
Regulators going on many quads are common. Bikes too. I had to replace the regulator on the bayou. On Polaris sportsman 500s, the regulators are pretty common to replace, as they just go bad. The stators also were also somewhat common to go as well. I think they had less than ideal suppliers. There's a reason both of these items are easily found in the aftermarket and there's YouTube videos on how to change them. These were the two weak points of the sportsman 500.
