    Good progress!

You could paint the ends to slow the dry, but I wouldn't worry.

Yeah the structural screws are like giant kreg screws. I've only used them on small projects. Some have that torx bit Wich I find annoying some have a 6 point head.

I have found with hemlock putting them up green is the only way to go. It gets really hard and splits when dry.

We just built a one room addition workshop with the traditional 4 foot deep foundation and then a floor and cement walkway around it,
They used a 3,000 lb mix for the foundation because it is less costly and even though it is less dense and gives a little for water filtration but can still hold up a large load due to it's 4 foot depth and more costly 4,000 lb mix for the floor and walkway because it is more dense and stronger to prevent cracking under load, so is that one pour of both foundation and floor a compromise in strength if using 3k psi mix or still quite costly if using all 4k PSI mix?

Also are you going to install a sub panel for electrical?
I installed a 30 AMP sub panel which made wiring in a nice 240 vac in wall AC unit and separate circuits for the compressor and shop vac a little easier. Then I ran a separate wire for the 50 amp welder outlet. :)

I would use 4,000 psi concrete for everything...

Well it's been raining since I set those beams, and forgot to mention that it's now a 2 room addition. We're going with a 2nd floor. I was not happy with how I was going to have to build the roof, too low of a pitch to clear the window's above for a shed roof, and didn't want the snow falling off at the french door that will be in the front. I'll be jogging the 2nd floor 4 1/2 feet forward so that the existing roof will match up and other reasons that simplify the roof for snow considerations. I built 2 of the 2nd floor walls on the ground between rain showers and will lift them into place. Played around with a faux post & beam looking beam that will support the 2nd floor yesterday. I dug some 4' holes for precast cement piers for the wood posts to sit on. Nasty digging even with a hydraulic post hole digger with a 30" auger, too many big rocks.

    That's more like it.

At my previous house my ex was digging holes to put in chain link fencing for a dog pen. Had a hole at big as for that shown with the column and couldn't find the end of the rock. Ended up moving the gate to a different location instead. Same thing happened when trying to place posts for clothes line. The entire location got moved because of the rocks in the way.

Set that beam & post deal today, should help "soften" the not very fancy metal exterior, there's a long story behind that.
    DSCN8801.JPG DSCN8804.JPG

That big wood 'theme' will flow right into that first floor room's ceiling. A double french door go's in that opening to the room.

I'm not looking forward to extending these! (kit. stove top fan & bath fan) I hope to just 90* them onto the front face but they are
in the floor joist and will require a pretty big hole in them. That portion of the floor will be conventional 2x10 framing and get stuffed with foam being it's exposed to the exterior w/living space above it.

Slow but somewhat steady. Got the 1x10 pine ceiling (above the floor timbers) down and the 2x6 t&g floor for the 2nd floor down. The 3 walls for the 2nd floor are built. I'm putting the foam in them while their on the ground, a 2.5" layer between the studs and a 1.5" layer outside of the studs in between the purlins for the metal siding attachment, Tyvek also. Much easier than doing it all off scaffolding. The walls should be about a R- 39 with 4" of foam and 3 1/2" of fg insulation. Hope to set some of the walls tomorrow.
