Well, i'd been looking for a decent 026, most of them were over priced and some were pretty beat. So, emailed a guy on CList and he answered. We talked about the saw, and he had pretty good pictures, it looked like a good one, so i made arrangements to meet up with him, ended up buying it. I even took a big block of red fir to try it out on. So, i asked if i could start it, 3 pulls on the choke, one pull with out and it fired right off. I let it warm up a bit, and tied into the red fir. Pretty good results, but, the chain wasn't quite filed like it should have been and he noticed right off and said, ''i guess i'm not quite that good with a file''. But, the power this old beast had was really , pretty good. Its a nice clean saw, no broken or cracked plastic. He was right up front with me on what he did to it. Tore the carb off it, and rebuilt it, then cleaned the saw up. He did put a new plug in it, and the air filter looked pretty new as well. I was impressed with how great it ran, so, i paid him, and he made me out a bill of sale, then told me, ''if anything goes wrong with it let me know, and i'll make it right'', Can't beat that, he also said, he did take the compression and it was 175. I asked him if he had started it lately, he said , ''no, not since last Sunday when i talked to you'' so, it had sat cold since that time, this is friday, and it fired up with 4 pulls, not bad in my eyes. Nothing is broken, even the starter rope looks good. Now, the ''never fails'', lol. Last week i bid on, and bought a Stihl 261, i KNEW i'd find a 026 the min i bought the 261 NEVER FAILS, ha,ha, But, now, i've got 2 great little saws to run, and, i'm set. Went to the grand daughters after i got the 026, put a little of my fuel in it, and got my file out, brightened up the chain a little bit, sunk it into a 16'' ash stump and cut it off clean in no time. Then, back cut with the tip. a good sized chuck of ash i'd cut a couple of wks ago, it was about 14'' it sliced though that like it was butter. Its got a 18'' B&C on it, and for these saw's to me, its a perfect combination. Now, i'll pick up a new chain and see what i can do with that. I'll do the picture thing a little later on. I feel good about what i paid, its great to actually trust some one and it panned out great for once. I got took on a husky a little earlier this year, anyway i think i did. That's in the past, this 026 kind of makes up for the not so good deal. I'm happy, and that's the main thing.
I love my 026's, now get it ported & you'll really have something to smile about. Nice to find some decent people too isn't it? Well done!
Love my 026 & 260. Been wanting a 261 for awhile! Stared at a 261 at the dealer this morning, but the wife was with so I couldn't get to fresh with it! Tell me, how does the 261 cut compared to the 026/260?
More than once I've done this, i'll search, and search for some thing, buy it, then a couple of months later, it comes on sale, after i've already spent the money. But, if i wait, it never gets any cheaper, so, I've kind of decided if i find what i want, and i have the money, i should buy what ever it is, and start enjoying it sooner. That's why i bought the 026 today, its a nice saw, i doubt i could find a better one for the same money. And, the guy who sold it too me was a great guy, and honest about the saw. So, i was able to get it this morning. I've already used it, and it runs great, cuts a whole lot better since i touched the chain up, and it oils like there is no tomorrow. Can't beat any of the above.
Been a while since i looked over here, how does the 261 cut to my 026, like day and night, don't get me wrong, i've had one of my 026's for over 30 years, i'm not kidding. Super, super dependable saw, and to this day i runs great!! I cannot complain about it one bit. But, the 261 , to me anyway is a higher winding saw, which ends up being a faster cutting saw, anyway at this time it seems to cut faster, yes it has the .325 chain on it. And, the 261 is a smoother cutting saw, to me anyway. But, 026 has the solid rubber mounts, the 261 has the spring type mounts. This 261 wail's, it winds up fast, and keeps right after it the second i get into a log, or tree. At this point, i have no complaints at all about the 261 just like the good old 026. But, i like the out and out raw power of the 044, but, apples and oranges there. The more i run the 261 the more i really like it. I'm glad i went with the 18'' B&C it really works great on the 261. Oh, it cuts like a laser, lol, I cut 5 rings on a 16-18 '' log and it flat amazed me how smooth it was. Muff mod to happen soon. yup, i think i'm really going to really enjoy this saw
