Lol. I know you're just trying to get my goat, but I speak the truth. FYI that wouldn't be me that said that I was a yooper. I just go there to wreck stuff, spend money, and leave. Like a good tourist.
Friends from Milwaukee area moved up here....kinda sorta probably permanently some day. They asked if they are yoopers now? They said "the ATV club guy says we are!" I said the guy from the ATV club isn't a yooper either, as he moved up here on retirement.
You've become a wood magnet... Lots of work but no worries about where your heat will be in the future.
Yep. I'm a Wood magnet it appears. As of last night, that first neighbor ,Rick, texted me saying another house right down the road had wood cut to length and it was at the curb. I took that way into work, figuring I'll stop and pick it up after work. It was like 10 smaller branch rounds (6" diameter or so) but they appeared to be consistent and normal length. It was box elder. Not worth my time, unless it's still there when I go back to get the rest from the other scores.
Right? I mean I like box elder, but I'm good on that stuff for a while. I've got plenty of BE now. I mean if it was locust, or oak, or anything else I'd have it on my pile to process. What's this white stuff outside? It was 74° yesterday and now 19° and a coating of frosting.
Shoveled and plowed here. Wind let us know that there will be no dog walks today! Lab pretty much goes out and turns around.
Ok got pretty much everything I have here split and sorta stacked to start drying. Those stacks are a good 6.5 feet tall. If/ when they fall, I'll then stack them in the wood shed.
Thought this would be the last load. Nope. Still a bit more after this that I just got after work today. There's bigger rounds underneath. A lot of that stuff on top will be campfire wood. Mostly to help out a neighbor and clean up the mess.
Looking good! Good on you taking the messy wood. The neighbor will remember that and tell the other neighbors. You might get more scores like this next year!
They are about to list their house. They have about 2 cords already split and stacked under a steel roof, but open on 3 sides. I think she's about to let me have all of it. That, and I've already have their neighbor on the other side's number and he has a lot of dead and down ash that needs to be bucked that he offered me. I offered use of my splitter as he burns outside and has no splitter. He's got a decent pile that needs splitting already. That will be coming up in the next few weeks more than likely.
Here's the gooder big stuff that was at the bottom of the trailer on the last load. Still have the 1 big butt of ash on the bottom left that I need to shorten before splitting. It's like 22", so I'll cut a 4-5" cookie off of the eggs of it, then split. That cookie, split a could times will surely be nice to full the stove at the top when it's a really cold day out. I have a decent pile of uglies that will be burned in camp fires. Had a really nice fire outside last night actually. The wind calmed down and while it was upper 30's, the fire really kept us nice and warm.
I split all the wood in rounds that I had, except the too long ash butt. I'll need to saw that shorter still. There's a small pile of logs that need to be cut shorter and then split. But that's another day. I got a decent load in the small trailer, hooked up to the gt17 and hauled it to the shed to fill that far left bay. I am glad I didn't fill the trailer any more as I was barely able to get enough traction with the little bit of snow that was left over from Friday's storm. Only 2wd and no locker, and turf tires can only do so much. We had like 5" of snow Friday and it's mostly gone but not in a couple of key areas . I had to back up and take several attempts that had the least amount of snow and the least uphill routes. Here's one view from the shed to the house. Luckily the snow all melted from the sun in front of the shed. That afternoon sun really blasts the wood shed. It definitely helps get the wood to dry. I stacked that, and need just a little more to fill that bay for 2024-25 wood. I'll need to get the step ladder anyway. Here's my storm damage score of "artisanal paper birch" that I should list on FB to see what stupid price I could get for it. Something tells me that 20-25 bucks is totally possible. Some people.
I didn't wait. While the stacks didn't topple, I wanted to get the shed filled before it rained tonight. Here's the great but. I only put a partial load in the trailer because I thought that would do it. Nope. Needed more, especially when filling to the top. Notice the ladder in the trailer to get to the top? I brought another load over, and that pretty much did it. A little space at the top. Next load. I moved the led motion lamp that I put in a couple years ago. It should put it better light and allow me to full the bay all the way and still have light. Full. I started on the middle bay. I got two of 5 rows done in the second bay, started the 3rd row and just tossed the rest of the last trailer load I did today into the bay to stack later. It's under cover now at least. I have a few more rounds to split and more pieces that need to be cut down and then split and a stacked.
