In addition to this, it would be helpful to find out the time of day that he is seeing "smoke" billowing out of your chimney. As we all know, conditions of high humidity cause water vapor to be visible when it exits your chimney. Doesn't matter if you're burning oil, nat gas, propane, pellets, wood or grandma's old sofa, you'll get water vapor condensing out of the air as the chimney exhaust cools. As we all know, it is easy to see water vapor dissipate quickly whereas smoke tends to linger.. Wouldn't surprise me if his pictures will be from the morning when your "smoke" is most evident....

Man, I love the smell of wood smoke even though I can hardly smell it here due to burning seasoned wood.. Again, good luck!!

I have a question. I keep hearing and reading that part of burning clean is smaller, hotter fires.

Last year I started loading the stove fuller, but still have all other clean-burning practices in place. I go outside and monitor visible smoke regularly and usually see clear mist. Am I missing something? Unless I'm mistaken most here pack their stoves pretty tight...

It's one of the reasons we all preach to burn only "seasoned" wood. And, ideally to try to get 3 years ahead on your firewood supply.

Generally, stuffing the firebox box full will take longer to get going; hence, more smoke going out the top of your chimney. Now couple that with less than ideal wood.................

I agree it seems most do this. I recently have been using many smaller splits to keep the coal bed down, so I can load heavy for the overnight. It's a timing thing for me.

Him suggesting you use oil-filled heaters doesn't make any sense, you already have electric heat, you are trying to save money and keep warm , oil-filled heaters are more dangerous and would cost just as much to run as the electric base board heat you already have

I am from the same town and the EPA wants to shut the Electric plant down because it does not meet the EPA codes. The only way it can stay open is to run a new natural gas line down an already existing road and the NJ Environmental Protection Agency (due to public outcry) voted against allowing them to put in the new gas line. The plant now burns coal and oil. Nobody wants the plant to burn coal and oil, nobody wants the gas line and now now ones to let ya burn wood. I am glad im from the more country side of town with no neighbors and have a wood stove and just put in and OWB while I could still get the Central Boiler Classic

You forgot, he is a lawyer. Court costs are not expensive, it is the lawyers that eat up the money.

Wasn't so much thinking of court costs but his burden of proof. That might cost him some $$ to prove the air quality is soooooo bad, and that she's the reason.

Yes, you are right! I had forgotten about the B.S. factor. "Consultants" around here can cost $400 per hour!

We're all pulling for you Shari, as this case could have implications much farther reaching than any of us can fathom. Seems you are doing your best to be a responsible woodburner, let's hope the truth falls on honest ears and justice prevails.

I'm lockup the thread down, keep us posted on your case.
