I'd fire up that 441 at midnight to let her know who's boss. :saw:

Ha! I moved the firepit across the yard to an open area with no tree branches above. Smoke is going straight up and wafting away. Think part of the problem was my fire was closer to her side and the maple above was holding the smoke and allowing it to push out to either side. The heat from the smoke is enough to carry it far into the sky now before it goes in any direction. I'll keep an eye on it. I split my wood really small today before having a fire. That seems to help burn hot and clean.

My office where I have my stove is not so congested. I can get away with more like having hoards of wood and running saws. If not for that, I'd go nuts. :wacky:

Good thing you didn't burn your old washing machine in your backyard like Grizzly did. That really would have upset her. We had a neighbour who was up wind of the house in the winter who used to burn all their garbage in their fireplace. whew! talk about stink. I don't think they knew about 3 year dry seasoned wood!!

I burn most of my trash, but when I do I add in some wood to get a hot fire. Hardly smokes and doesn't really smell.

As far as neighbors, someone will always fine something to complain about. There is always that one.

I had issues last year with a neighbor 3 houses over complaining about me making noise. Welding, grinding, etc while building a box for my dumptruck. Work was going on during the day from 9ish till maybe 6-7ish at night and it certainly wasn't constant.
Now keep in mind too this is Alaska in summer where people are often working on stuff or cutting their grass at 10-11PM and it's not a "faux pas"

A lady and little girl came over while I was welding and did the "Hi we are your new neighbors" deal. I had never seen them before and thought they were a religious group spreading the word.
I extended the courtesy... hi, handshake, etc but I was busy so I did the "well... sorry but I've got to get back to what I was working on" I guess that insulted her so she goes on to talk about everyone in the neighborhood has an issue with me making noise, people want me to move, etc.
After a bit of this I was getting upset so I told her "You are not welcomed here, LEAVE!"

Well maybe 10 minutes later the guy 3 houses over comes by with a "I'm gonna beat your azz" look. Come to find out it was his new girlfriend (didn't know... I guess he got divorced) and she had told him I was swearing up a storm and threatening her and the kid.

There happened to be 4 other people around other than me when this happened and that story got shut down quick.
He came back a few nights later when I was working in the garage, drunk and I have no idea if it got "resolved".
I just ignore them at this point.

Over at the farm... the neighbor is near where I cut wood and they have complained about noise, dust, etc. Guess what... it's a FARM!

They complained to me about burning "trash" that it was fuming them out. Well it's dry branches and splitter trash, not trash that would make fumes. Said his wife has asthma and couldn't breathe. Well a few weeks alter she is out in the field raking leaves into a bonfire with smoke pouring off it blowing right into her face. Yeah....

I'm to the point where I will be reasonable about what I'm doing (ie not firing up a saw at 2AM) but otherwise tough crap.

Then there was teh big driveway issue. The driveways are together but the farm driveway was in good shape and theirs wasmud and grass. Somehow by me being there it turned into they thinking I was going to haul grair driveway.vel and fix the. In the end, there is a line going down teh property line oabout 2ft high of hourse shiit. Took care of that siusse.

BTW about is the forum scrwing up. I type and it takes 30+ seconds for it to show up and it's all screwed.

FC, I wonder if they are the type of neighbor that wouldn't resolve their issues with diplomacy and go right to the phone and get the po po on you.

It's a common issue wit windows browsers. Our forum software have absolutely nothing to do with how fast text that you type shows up on your screen.

Nate, that is about the last thing I would have anticipated from folks in Alaska. Ignore them, call the law on them if they keep harassing you. Also, keep two big dogs with you when you are outside. They can help adjust attitudes and keep nuisances away.

I'm still in "Suburbia". Its hard to find a decent home at decent pricing that is still somewhat close to things but also away too. I'm on about 3/4 acre and wish I had more. 5 ish acres... Common to see prices of 15-20k an acre though.

The forum wouldn't effect it? Doesn't matter if it's the phone or laptop. It's the input from your side of things that would cause a delay. Your typing comes from your computer.

Have you tried a different browser? Have you cleaned the laptop recently? I know my wife's Laptop becomes slow after a month. Then I gotta go in and clean it up.

That's because it is. All our software does is tell your browser that there is a text field, what happens after is a browser issue. Any further discussion can be in The thread you started.

When I first bought my house and was having fires regularly my neighbor would stop over with beer when he got a whiff of smoke or saw the orange glow from the fire. His house is about 500' east of mine.

I usually have fires when the wind is slightly from the northwest. That blows the smoke over the orchard behind me and the corn/hay/soybean fields behind that. I have to go a mile to the south/southwest before there is another house. There are two houses to the north of me on the other side of the road, then another mile before the next road. I can't get cable, dsl or natural gas, but I don't have to deal with suburbanite drama either.

Best of luck with the neighbor situation. I'm lucky that there are only 5 houses in my immediate vicinity (two north, two east and mine) and every one burns wood, though one of them cuts in October to burn for the coming winter. I've tried to talk sense into him, but it just isn't working.

I feel your pain. I had to move after cidiots moved out my way. I left for 10-acres in the middle of nowhere. Neighbors here all cut and burn wood, have G2G rifle/pistol shoots, loud lifted trucks, it's pretty much heaven on earth. We a know one another on a first name basis! If you can, move to the country. Life is a lot more fun here!
