The btus don't care. If you have enough btusb, propane works fine. But yeah, -20°f .Yeah that's too cold to be outside grilling.
Southern Ohio isn’t cold like the northern states. I just use a welders blanket to keep it warmer and save on pellets.
Most of y'all know how cold it has been here. Today it warmed WAY UP . So , Its moose steaks on the grill ! ;-)
Propane doesn't boil very good in the cold. At 40 below we can only use 1 burner on our kitchen range. At 20 below our propane hot water heater can't get enough gas to light off. So when its Cold we do most all our cooking on the wood stove. It's plenty hot. I have little desire to stand outside at 20 below babysitting the grill.
I've been known a time or two to run the BBQ or charcoal grill down to -15 or -20 C ( 0 F or a bit below) but I've never been accused of being the smartest guy in the room.
Sorry I missed your birthday callout Sean! I’m also sorry I haven’t been able to find the decent pictures I took outside at Xmas. I guess I didn’t get my grill snowed on...
Thanks @fatboy! Any snow at your house? Family in the lower mainland say theyve got some this morning.
Happy birthday Sean, my bbq is not neglected it's used every month as long as temps are above 0. Valentine's day 27 degrees N.Y. strip bone in 2.29 a pound .. Dropped 100 but hey freezer wasn't full and wife is. I win
Nah no snow, however its supposed to possibly do so on Sunday. We’ll just see ‘Bout that! Either way its gonna be colder than a Witch’s dungeon around here for a couple days.
I think part of the battle is to keep the area dug out then its not so much a chore when you think about grilling. I just dont get the desire to do it in -20c and then if I do its slow to heat up. I was talking to my 12 year old son about this topic the other day and he said maybe I need to switch gears and use the wood burning bbq! At least hes giving me more than one option to grillin. That one is buried as well but maybe not as much.
Yeah he does lots of shoveling and is a real trooper that way but he broke his right arm last week so he gets a get out of shoveling free card for awhile.
Happy belated Sean Fired up the propane (blech...prefer charcoal) last Sunday for a couple really nice ribeyes!
