Unless you are cutting about 30” wood and up, I’d pick the lighter 562 and consider getting it ported. First ported saw I ever ran was a Mastermind 562. Very smooth cutter. If you’ve never ran or been around a modded saw, a good builder can increase cut speed by 35-40% in the same piece of wood. It really changes the game.

I'd love to try out a ported 562xp someday !
Who's a good person to send a 562xp to these days for such work ?

I’ve never ran any of the ones mentioned, except my 562. It was my biggest saw back when I got it and I ran a 28” bar on it sometimes. It would pull it but I don’t think it would be a good idea to do it steadily. I have other bigger saws now. 562 wears a 20” all the time and is a great saw at the log pile and firewooding in general.
huskihl comment about good prices on new Husqvarnas and then being ported is pretty tempting. I’ve had a 572 itch for awhile now

I’ve dealt with 5 different guys. Each did a different size saw, each did what I would consider excellent work. Dan Henry and Mike Lee are out of the game. I’m not sure on Eric Copsey these days. He turned my 346 into an animal. Shaun Carr does amazing work. And Kevin will turn just about anything into a pizzed off sumbeach. There’s one other guy I wouldn’t send to. Won’t comment here so pm would be best.

That’s a fair point also. I wouldn’t say they’re notorious for it, but it’s common for crank bearings to only last 300-500 hours on them if some extra measures aren’t taken.

For warranty concerns, it’s a bit of a gamble. A good port guy will assume most of the warranty on the engine. And good dealers will still fix other issues not related to the port work.

    Back saw 390XP 36" bar.
    Middle 562XP 28"bar.
    Bottom 439 16" bar. 100_5324.JPG
I use the 390 when I encounter big wood!

The 562 had no problem with these logs. ( look at the ladder for a comparison for the diameter and size!)

It it could be the crank, but it’s more likely the case bearings and seals. The ball bearings are all separated by a plastic retainer that deteriorates over time. I haven’t priced them out 0n a 545, but I know the bearings and seals are integral to each other and a little bit expensive at $50 apiece or so

Get both the 562 & 572. Quality machines that hold their value.

How much further to a Stihl dealership? Until this comment I was going to suggest the ms 400c, at 67cc it’s right in the middle of the two huskies. The 400 is a bit lighter than a 562 or 572 has more power than the 562 and is built of the Stihl ms 362 which has proven to be a pretty durable saw. The 400 has a mag alloy piston which actually is less weight than a 362 piston so should be as easy or easier on the lower end. But if Stihl isn’t an option then it’s not and I’d pick a 572, mostly because the 562’s I’ve dealt with have all been mark 1 saws with hot start issues ect. I’m sure the mark 2 is fine but I've never used one because everyone I know wouldn’t buy another 562 because of the mark 1 they owned.

There's my dilemma. In the next year the budget will allow for 1 572xp OR 2 562XP's

That's the allure of the 562 for me

The only dealer within 45 minutes is a hardware store that doesn't do service

If they’re selling saws for Stihl they need to service them per stihl’s rules.

My 562xp is the newest updated one. I run it pretty hard and steady..always starts right back up. I learned long ago with my first 545...that if u flip the choke up...then un choke it..dont touch the throttle..when you pull the cord..its at a high idle...flip the throttle..it settles down..away you go. Never an issue. I've tried just regular starting my 562xp after shutting down to fuel up...starts right up just the same. The problems are pretty well documented and sorted out....I wouldn't hesitate to get another..its that great of a saw !
Never ran a 572xp..im sure it's awesome. But for me on the 562xp...with my 20" bar...I can cut small limbs and bigger firewood. I wouldn't hesitate to have a 24" bar on mine. I like the extra reach so I don't bend down as far... and the saw would handle it buried in a log every now and then too. It's like anything..trucks..tractors..saws....
Where do you stop with the upgrade sizing ? At some point the weight...the cost...and the overall size start to work more against you than in your favor . That size is different for everyone !
The 562xp for me is perfect for 99 percent of the size stuff I cut. The other 1 percent I avoid..or I'll grab my new to me 395 xp lol. I'd rather carry the lighter of the two 99 percent of the time !
Goodluck with your choice....its different for each of us !!!!
    To me..id go (2) 562's.
I always need a spare to uncut my other saw when it gets pinched ! I'm that good ;)
To me..i like a bigger gap between saws in my 3 saw plan than there is between the 562 and 572.
Again....personal preference. Some guys have one saw..some have a three saw plan..others have an endless array of saws !
I go seek out all my wood manually in our woods......but I tell you..if I was sitting at a log pile all afternoon...id think about the 572xp. Why not get done faster!
