Wore Redwings for years and they are great boots. Tried a pair of Thourogoods (spelling) as they are about $100 cheaper a pair for basically the same boots. Love them and I am on my 4th pair now. Made in USA also.
I looked at those but I didn’t care for the design/ look / color. They didn’t look like they had a lot of leather on them & I wondered how durable they would be. Of course I’m sure a picture on the internet doesn’t do them justice. I do know Pfanner makes decent clothing.
I have worn a red wing style like these that seemed to give decent service. Says they’re made in USA but could be made off shore as well. I wasn’t aware red wing did that.
I have weird feet, the only boots I can wear are Rockys and all my other shoes/sneakers are Sketchers. I have tried many others wear them a few times and wind up giving them away.
That's exactly what I have. Wife bought them for me last xmas or maybe 2 xmas's ago can't recall but I love them and boy are they comfortable.
I liked the Rocky boots I had once except for the fact that the bottoms rotted out super fast. Have been gun shy on trying them again after that.
I have been avoiding leather boots for many years as I find they breakdown and need more attention than ballistic nylon boots. I work and play in and around water a lot so another need in all my work and hunting boots is Gore-tex (or similar product like sympatex). I am a big fan of gore tex. Even my everyday shoes and golf shoes are gore tex. I prefer Vibram soles but not a deal breaker. regardless they must have a decent tread. Having said that, they have stopped making a few of my favorite go to boots so I am in the market too. Here in Canada I have worn the Canadian made Terra Ripcurrent for over 15 years for work and firewood cutting. Not cheap but comfortable and keep my feet dry even when standing in water all day. Bought the last pairs of 13`s in the province. When the Terra`s became scarce, I bought a pair of these similar, made in Quebec STC`s Shire but now they have stopped making them too. Decent boot but a little wider than the Terra`s Now that I can`t get either of the two above, I am looking to try these ballistic nylon Timberland Pro Resistor`s next For hunting, I have worn two pair of ballistic nylon gore tex Irish Setter hunting boots for almost 25 years now. One pair with 600 grams of thinsulate and the other is a pair of Grizzley Trackers (look nothing like current model) with 1000 grams of thinsulate. In all these years, the only time I have had a wet foot was when I was knee deep or deeper in water.
My most current pair are still new, but from past experience, they will suck when it comes to waterproofing. They are the Direct Attach model. I think the Titans were the most comfortable ones I've bought
I have separate boots for work and pleasure. I find that for what I do separate boots work best. At work I wear redwings, standard work boot, very non aggressive sole, spend a lot of time walking on concrete floor which seems to wear out an aggressive sole very quickly. For everything else I wear hiking or backpacking boots, waterproof, aggressive sole. Right now I have a pair of Vasque Summit, great boot, very comfortable, vibram sole, no complaints. For day to day wear @ the store I’ve been finding these extremely comfortable & nice light weight. Called Wolverine Trappuer.
Thorogoods are made in Wisconsin. I don't own any of them, but my brother that lives in Oregon swears by them and always wants to stop at the factory store when he visits.
That's what happened to my original pair of rocky cornstalkers. But that hspphapp after like 15 years of a lot of use for hunting and such. I had zero complaints, so I got the next pair, the wildcat. The only issue I have with these is that there is no loop at the back top to help pull them off.
Yep. Both of the Rocky boots I've had are ballistic nylon, with thinsulate and GoreTex. That stuff works great to keep your feet dry and warm.
When I need to replace my boots I will likely get Rocky's as my buddies are Rocky Pro Staffer's and I can get them at cost. Problem is my 25 year old Irish Settlers are still holding up great. They may very well outlast me
Don't like that. Pretty sure these are made offshore so it doesn't surprise me. I am having a hard time finding reviews on the Timberland Waterproof membrane.
I use the shorter style for work... I replace them after about a year of use. But that's considering I'm usually walking or standing for 10 to 13 hours day for 5 to 6 days a week on concrete. I've been with this style for about 14 years now...
