    Black maple.
    Sugar, Norway, red (aka swamp), and silver are the common maples around here, but on a rare occasion ive seen these. Doesnt show up on the range map for CT or LI but i have seen them around.

    You may have it! Here is some info and there is a pic of bark. I also read that the maples make hybrids and it can confuse people like us, lol...
