You could also see about having the chuck rebuilt. Course thats a bit of time to get done, not good if it's your only production unit.
I was considering that but it would have to be done after procuring a new one. Do you have anyplace you'd recommend ? Square shafts are a mainstay for us so I can't be down without a chuck.
I looked in to it a long time ago, opted for a Bison vs rebuilding a Cushman. At the time Bison was about a 1/3 less, just a 3 jaw scroll 8" d1-4. So long ago that I do not remember who it was that quoted the rebuild. At the point now that the bison could due with a going over.
I have a Buck 6 jaw comes in handy for tubes and bushing type work. I guess I'm just a nervous chuck buyer. I NEED it to be tough. 1 1/2" square 304 stainless bar to .9995" in 3 passes, day after day. The old swedish one did it many thousands of times. What concerns me is the fact that this chuck cost almost a grand more like 30 years ago than today's offerings.
Guess it depends on wallet- as there are chucks out there that are north of 4g's ( 3/4/6 jaw ) and then you still need a backing/mounting plate( which will need some tinkering) or make one.
Can you possibly point me in that direction ? Back plate is not a problem, done many of those. I'd rather spend it up front once and done as opposed to spending it anyways after a lesser chuck is trashed.
