She is a totally different animal than the 13. I could usually predict the 13, but this 30 has got me relearning my habits. But the secondary's are phenomenonal on the 30!:D

How are you loading and when are you adjusting the air?

Chimney height? Lined? Top temps you are hitting?

Nice avatar. Didn't anyone ever tell you that it is impossible to get a Hearthstone over 500 degrees? :D

Right now I've been loading NS predominately. Honestly couldnt tell you details on when adjusting. Just been trying to see how it reacts. Just generals. Been waiting for the stove pipe hits 275-325 and/or when notice the stoves getting 350 to 400. I finally hit a little over 600 yesterday and you could smell the paint curing. It seems to settle nicely where the brass knob is almost under the lip of the catch tray. I've been trying to stay around 300 to 400 degrees, unless it get back down to zero then I had to take it up a bit. But the 13 I had to run pretty hard & stay on it. This seems to allow me to let it cruise at a much lower temperature.

The chimney is 21 ft( I think I'll verify later). Triple wall after 7 foot. My big catch is the double 90 that's at the 7 foot mark. I've got to figure how to get that out. It didn't really bother the 13 but the 30 I see some resistance.

Well, it kinda roll off this afternoon, since it was 80 something in the house. Plus I had a Birthday party to go to. Got back about 7 ish and reloaded with my fullest load yet, about 8 decent chunks of Oak. The back two E/W and the front line N/S. At 7:30 I got combustion. The inside temperature started at 72, now at 8:22 we are at 76. I let it set pace on the stove pipe to around 300, stove top was upper 200 low 300. I started shutting her down, got a nice flame going. Its been sitting at 450-500 for the last 20 minutes or so, with a beautiful flow of secondaries going on. The push in tube is definitely below the catch lip, but not all the way down. I'm really curious on the length of time this burn will last.

Just off note. Its been over 3 days at these out door temps and I still haven't dumped ash's or coals out. At these temps it was a daily or every day and half chore to do with the NC13.

The only one issue that I want to fix, should have done it with the last ones. Is the double 90 (over very close to), need the angle to get to clear rafters, but would like to get it started earlier to lessen the angle.

I pay more attention to how the fire looks than the stove top temp. Once the fire catches firmly, I adjust some more. Usually end with the air control just inside the ash lip. Don't be afraid of 700. When doing a full e/w load, make it tight. If your splits are shorter than the firebox, load the box tight to the right and load n/s in the remaining space to the left.

Ok, I'll have to try that. Pretty much my load for the next year will be shorter, cut for the 13. But I've been cutting for anticipation of the last three years for the NC30.

Yep. Just under ash lip for a good burn, or just outside the lip for a hot/faster burn.

The 30 reacts very well to small adjustments in air.

Its 8 degrees outside/windchill of -3 right now. I got up at 2 and opened up the air supply. When I got up at 4 it was still 75 degrees in the living room and the stove top was still running around 200 to 225. Which I'm thrilled with, thats roughly 9-10 of solid heat. Plus no ash's to take care of yet.

I'd be interested in hearing what you experienced nc30 burners have for a temp differential between the stove top and the pipe when the stove is cranking.

Haven't had it cranking, so far I've kept it pretty much 400 to 500. I did peak at 600 a bit on Saturday. But my pipe temperature is stays up around 200 to 325, then it goes down as the stove temps drop.

Thanks, how is that pipe temp measured, single or double wall?

Well, this is going to be our coldest night that we've hit this year. Its been a cold day in itself. Its suppose to drop to -4 tonight. Got the NC30 Stocked and Rockin'. I'm LUVin' this stove. Loaded up this morning at 5:15 and by 5:30 the house was sitting at 71, the stove top was about 230 (high of 12 outside today). Doing everything I wanted it to do. Now tonight I just loaded at 8:15 with Mulberry/H. Locust & Hedge. Heres the load:

Its about 1 1/2 hrs later and the stove it rockin' at 575, room is sitting at 75. Cant wait to see it response to this load.
