I don’t believe it. I Know many people who moved south, did they forget how to think? Farmers here generally are good at making it “work”. I do empathize with the elderly and infirmed.

the reason the ground freezes so hard is water in it! Does coal in the south hold water??

Maybe kerosene isn't readily available, but thats the quick fix here when machines are freezing up. (And of course, every parts store has several types of fuel conditioner on the shelf here.)

I might mention though, in my 20+ years of driving diesels, I've only ever had one freeze up, and that was on a trip to northern Maine.
( I keep a bottle of additive in the truck now and just use the recommended amount when it gets into the teens and single digits.)

Exactly! I feel like these poor young folks are being raised missing so many opportunities for sense of accomplishment & self worth. There is such a good feeling about laying your hands to some task & the inner joy of completion. Some of our younger generation will never have that experience.

So in OSHA training at werk, one fellow shared how he had to teach a youth HOW TO HOLD A HAMMER. And this wasnt carpentry, just outdoor work on heavy equipment. The OSHA 10 instructor said as much, this is a wide spread phenomenon.

Homeschoolimg gave us so much more control over the child's knowledge base. Not that there weren't drawbacks, but he's in a much stronger place in ways we hold dear. He never had tons of radical toys or video games, but what he does have will serve him well long after we're gone.
