I feel your pain. The table saw is my only true level area for assembling. Putting away tools, glues and screws is my struggle. I missed out on a Delta 14" bandsaw. 1 hp motor, riser block, Carter guides and rip fence. I could not make time as it was a almost 2 hr trip one way. I have a 12" Delta, but for roughing blanks out, it is not tall enough.
I like the Kreg screw idea if it's possible........TAD. Or, go through the supports from the bottom. The assy. table I've had in the shed for the past 10 years is now in the shop waiting to be set up. 4.5'X8'. Built it over 25 years ago. Nothing but a 2X4 frame with plywood and a sacrificial 1/4" masonite top, but it's nice and flat. Didn't yooperdave just get a BS, or was it HDRock ?
Yeah that's basically what I did, except I just went straight in using regular Brad point bits. I almost had to buy the jig though just for the longer bits. I still might need a longer driver bit.
Yeah, looks like I misunderstood what he was explaining. I see predrilled holes there. Just curious why you plan to plug those screw holes? Who the heck is going to crawl underneath to check that out.....besides me?
I was thinking the same. Screws down through the top. It was his NY accent that threw me. On a side note. Anyone that uses the Kreg jig notice the wood plugs are not a standard dowel size?
Jon, I use 3/8" dowels as plugs. They're just a hair too small, but work fine. Make sure they're well seated.
Exactly. I have a few pieces of furniture that my grandfather made and I've inspected them pretty thoroughly, cause I can no longer ask him or anyone else how he made them. So I guess my hope is, even after I'm dead, someone will take an interest and inspect my work too - but that my secrets will only be revealed to a well trained eye... Sorry about that. Doubt it's the accent though. I think I was probably speaking in Shawnese back there.
The Beard has an effect too....true story. Very easy though to understand the question (in Michigan), "Can I have peanut butter pie for breakfast?"
