There seems to be a wide variety of 'thorniness' in the Honey Locusts in my area with some looking like porcupines and some with none at all. Other than the thorns they really can be a nice tree. Good firewood once it dries out, usually easy to split in the straight sections and the pods, while annoying in a yard, are good wildlife food. Hawthornes almost always have thorns but smaller than HL. They also are beneficial to the wildlife but don't contribute much as firewood.
Most of those pictures look simply like our thorn apple trees. I rarely burn this stuff though. It stinks really bad too. Sure can wreck havoc with tires...
Yes, they do. I thought we had a picture but can't seem to find it right now. They are small red fruits.
Whew...i dont know what that is...but how contagious is it?? And will it cause me to need more toilet paper?
Thanks Steve. Whatever it is and if i had a chance to cut it for firewood, id pass with all the thorns!
Changed my mind Brad. Not pyracantha. Checked mine and although it has thorns the berries are to small. Think I'm gonna go with some type of Hawthorn. More investigating as I have a couple growing across the street.
