Well....about 10 years ago I had a zillion things on my mind, went to back out of the garage, hit the remote and... Backed my truck right into the door as it was raising! Luckily, my carpenter friend was able to adjust it without any replacement panels. I did find out what Toyota tail light assemblies cost!
Not long after I got married, I was out of town and my wife backed out of the garage. Problem is, the garage door was still down. She realized the error before too much damage was done. Almost 14 years later and the bottom panel of the garage door still has the wound from that day. It's more noticeable on the inside than the outside. I decided to hold off on the permanent repair as history is often doomed to repeat itself.
I'll join the misery loves company group therapy session. My wife likes to leave the garage door remote on the passenger seat. Well, my wife was driving the 4runner, and I went to get in after the garage door was open. Well. It started closing upon me getting in the passenger seat while she was backing out of the garage. However could that have happened? Luckily there was merely a small scratch that I was able to buff out. The garage door, got a little bend to the lower brace, but no real damage, amazingly. The garage door is due for a replacement anyways. And yes, somehow this was MY fault.
Our Colorado connection Beetle-Kill had a similar "at fault" incident involving backing or parking or vehicles if I remember correctly! Horkn you gotta get yourself one of those electric eyes on the lowering/raising of the doors safety sorta thing. I myself hate them as I hit the close door button and then have to goose step out the door in order for it to continue closing without re setting.
Well Stinny. I managed to do something similar with a wooden overhead door that had no remote or motorized up and down. I just forgot that the big, long, heavy duty steel bar was standing up in my handy dandy 3-point carry all box. Well there were several pieces of debris laying around. I needed a whole new door. Luckily it was a salvaged door my parents had givin me and I painted it up and got use out of it for several years before I destroyed it.
... felt a little better when the guy fixin' the door told me he drove thru one half down... at work... gawd, that had to hurt...
Thanks guys. Nice to have a door work like new now. The guy tweaked and lubed everything. Nice n quiet... til the next crash...
The opener has the electric eye sensor. While the door was most certainly going back up, it wasn't as fast as the 4runner.
Closing nice once again. Looks lie I have the same style door at the new garage I had built. I wanted a 16X8 though. Thought about having the truck loaded with a ATV while driving into the garage and wanted the extra height.
