looking good Mike! It was a nice cool day. I was in North Grafton working and got tanned as well. Im with you. Warmer waether lessens my desire to make firewood.
Well, I ran a few tanks of fuel through my old husky 40 that I bought back in the mid-80's. Sitting on top the carnage it dealt out. The right side of that stack had SS wood, which I moved. That stack is about 5' high by 10' wide. My pile of logs, is no more I used my new-to-me, sawbuck. My neighbor was doing some spring cleaning, to my benefit. Rusty metal, still solid. I have a pile of rounds to split. Mostly just in half, a few to be quartered. Plus, a small pile of short uglies. It was a very nice morning to be outside wooding. Not too many left. Time for a couple of Aleve, and a shower. I suspect this will be the end of this thread. Between the wood from my friend, and the tree service free delivery, I'm thinking I got close to 4 cord.
No, Sir... There's still 1.5-2 cords of wood sitting there waiting on me. That'll be a different thread once I tackle it. Fortunately, she's in no hurry for me to get it outta there. I'll probably attack it in short bursts. I eyeballed it just the other day. I"ll be cutting as much as I can over there and stacking it....neatly. There's big wood over there. 24-30in, diameter. If I can't roll it, then I'll need to split a log lengthwise, just to get it over a stone wall. Figure I'll be running the saw nose along the length of it, lengthwise. Just deep enough to start wedging-sledging to split it. Going to be different.
Good eye! I knew there was that dial there. I never looked close enough to try to figure what it was. So 1/2017, as a manufacture date. Thanks!
I was trying to do just that earlier today with my husky 40. I found the plate, but it seemed to only have a serial number of it. I'll take a closer look. Newer huskys have plates that are more straightforward. **edit. Just found - Husqvarna FAQ : Research - How to read the serial number on professional products..
Today I split, for tomorrow I move and stack. Because I am beginning to feel a bit of hoarder's anxiety (empty rack), I decided it was time to process some onsite inventory, which was some rounds of the free tree service red oak I got, back in March. The rounds have been stacked here. I had started to split, before taking a pic. Making some headway. My x27 and heavier Chopper 1 mail. I'm done. A six foot stack of new splits, behind what I just tossed on the ground And, much less in the inventory. Time for a shower and Alieve.
Keep at it. Must have been a bit damp from the rain yesterday. It was certainly a nice day to process.
The rounds were a bit wet, but once I halved them, with miltiple strikes, it was mostly single strikes into splits. Tomorrow morning is looking good for more wooding activity.
Moving day! From here - To there - The ground dried out enough to use my yard cart, without making any muddy grooves. All full - For today at least. I'm sure some shorties will end up on top. I'll leave it uncovered for a year. Then, covered for the next two years. Final touch - Looks like I have a head start on the next rack that opens up. The majority of the rounds to the left of the splits, are destined to be noodled, after I get what I can split off of them. The full round on the bottom, measured out at 20" I hope your morning went as well as mine did.
Isn't it great that you can take your time with oak. You can just keep splitting enough to keep the racks full. I just saw a winter forecast for warmer than average. Doh!
