I cut and moved a few logs left behind by the tree service. No big deal, but I know they were there, keeping me awake nights. Lol Maybe a weekend's worth of heat.
Mike, Really enjoyed your firewood story and pics today... I laughed when I saw you commenting on that wood pile and thinking "that's about a weekend's worth". I do the same thing, always calculating how many days of heat, I cut, split or got stacked.
Every little bit helps. Haven't needed to buy fuel oil for over 3yrs. With the price drop it's time to fill up the tank.
I moved a number of rounds to a recently emptied rack. They are there to be split when I get bored. I have other wood needing to be put down for a nap. It's behind other racks. Mrs MikeinMa, would prefer the yard to look less "New Hampshire". For the record, I like NH. I need to get those splits moved and stacked, then neaten up the area
missed this update the other day Mike. Gotta love hand splitting red oak. Dontcha wish all other wood split like it? Looking real good. I hear you on making room. A constant issue with me.
I'm finding this stuff to be more stringy than past oak splitting I've done. Seems to be lots of hidden knots, from years ago, that were covered over. Getting through it. I was able to consolidate two stacking areas. I now have 2, 10ft stack areas. Some branches for rails between dirt and splits, between 2 trees. Time to css the score that sits atop this thread. I'm also glad that my sil is in no hurry for me to get that red oak we felled a couple of weeks ago. I have no room for it, right now. All good problems to have, however.
that would cause me sleepless nights as well. Have we coined a new wood hoarding disorder...Hoarders insomnia! I was stricken with locust mania for a while. Still have it of sorts. Been jonesing to hit my "other" locust scores. I think it should be listed in the resources section! Great job Mrs. MikeInMa Wanna see her swinging the Fiskars...from a safe distance!
I have some red oak to be split if you're bored! Maybe two cords worth...mostly straight grained. Whats with the new avatar? I liked the FHC sign!
Avatar - my anti-virus mask. Plenty to follow right here when the weather lifts. Hoping to css tomorrow morning, I'd love to get there and do some cutting with you CT'ers. Someday, once these crazy times are in the rear view mirror.
Whatever you do dont go into the bank with that on! I figured thats what it was for. Ive seen the thread about the sign. Midwinter had it then gave it to NH mountain man then you got it. Gonna make more room for stacks at my friends. Lots of splits needing stacking. I think thats my least favorite task even though i consider myself a good stacker Locust and cherry i have to move and stack. Cherry to split. recently split cherry and red maple (buried) awaiting stacking. I like to make stacks in either face, half or full cords. Dont know why, guess i like to know how much i have!
Getting around to making firewood. Two stacks, parallel, between two trees. Might use a t-post, might not. Found a mid-morning snack....for something. A grub of sorts. No pics, but disrupted a few carpenter union meetings. Ants. 1mp started running on fumes. Finished up for the day.
That maple will be dry in no time, compared to your oak! A good days work after being cooped up with rain.
Yup. That's why I want to stack it separately from the oak. I still won't have enough space to stack it all. I'll split and stack what I can. Then, go from there.
