Aside from a few noodle candidates, this is what was left to be split, from the free tree service red oak. Two stacks of splits, one in front of the other The last piece, kinda. I'm using the piece of trunk, with the wedge cut, as a splitting block. You can see a nice check mark right down the middle. I'm on it. Tap tap....tap tap Pry pry... Up on the splitting block I should have counted, but I'm thinking it was a few sticks either side of 25 splits from that one round.. You can see above, the splitting block to the right, and the wedge cut. Tomorrow, they'll get moved here, the far reaches of my woodyard. I'll probably beef them up a bit, but the stacking will be between 2trees, on saplings/branches.
As I said, I'll probably put in an upgrade there. Just to keep up off the ground. Screw the critters.
God said on the 8th day; Let there be Hydraulics, and it was so, and it was beautiful and God said, so it shall be... Thank God for Log Splitters!
Moving day. First load I found the red ribbon that marked the tree to be removed. I decided to leave it. It'll be a memory in 3yrs. Additional loads The fifth and last load. Now I can get back to my SIL's and move red oak that's there, to here. I have a bit of room to store it now. That'll probably be the last update of this thread. About 3cord in total. Replaces what I burned last year.
Good job my friend! Nice to have room to bring more in...a constant stress with me. I have a few splits with little orange tags from the Asplundh cutting a year ago. Left them on. How much at you SIL's yet?
I'm guessing a few sticks either side of 2cord. The area around where I was splitting, is red oak from 4/17. Probably the most sun-exposed area that I have wood stacked. So as I draw down on it this year, I hope to have onsite inventory to make into firewood, and refill those racks. Love to split on a cold winter's morning.
