3 years ago I answered a craigslist post advertising free firewood for the taking. Turns out the homeowners were a very nice young couple and had some sugar maple and ash trees taken down and were offering the logs to whoever wanted them. I was all over it with my hoarder buddy to help and we ended up getting about 20 face cords of firewood. Last fall they reached out to me and asked if they could buy a face cord of seasoned wood. I told them no way would I take their money and that I'd be happy to get them as much as they needed (they ended up giving me a nice bottle of bourbon which I did accept). Just got a text from the guy tonight with this photo asking if I wanted the logs from more trees he just had taken down (they are all sugar maple). I said hell to the yes and thank you very much! Some of those logs might be good for milling; I'll have to consult with my sawyer buddy.
That is awesome. My recent score was a friend who we'd helped drop trees then css wood. Taught him a few things as he was new to css and burning wood. He is leaving for a new job on short notice....we were given 3cord of 10 month seasoned ash and oak. He did most of the splitting. Since I was there with a trailer, I helped with some of the two-man yard work...which wife and kids were not capable of. And he just doesn't have the time to do it all himself. Kinda neat blessing each other back and forth, each blessing ppavingnthe way for another to happen. I need more relationships like that. Sca
