I've got this old Briggs that I've been saving for the right project. Looks like it's from the same era. Lol. It's a model 14, I think it's only 5 hp though.

I just looked on a website and it looks like a early 1951 engine so it predates the splitter by a bit. Lol

I had been searching craigslist for the past couple years and finally got to pull the trigger this past August on this home made splitter with a Honda Engine. It can hold up to a 25" long piece of wood and has done great on the 6 cords I split with it over the past month. The main beam is a train track upside down. It tows really good too. Good luck with your project splitter.

I did not realize that he was a new member. I second the welcome. The splitter is cool with the rail for a beam. :)

    Great lookin splitter.
Long ago my Dad made one out of a train rail real similar to yours.. We later cut the bottom off so it was just a T rail back to the cylinder mount to make a little lighter to move around in the woods. Didn't hurt the strength any, still couldn't bend it.
We split a lot of wood with it over a couple of decades.

The ones with the shift valve and 2 speed are 7 sec cycle time.
