Excellent thread! What a gracious neighbor! Wish we all could be as kind.

Of course, what did I forget to do before leaving VT yesterday....did not 'make the rounds'....d'oh!

But the Mrs. and I did some splitting/stacking yesterday. I think Red Oak is my new favorite splitting wood. It takes very little effort to pop apart. I'm not big guy and even I could in theory hit the rounds one handed and they pop apart. What a pleasure. Now, if it only didn't take a decade to season. ; )

I'll get some pics next weekend. We are almost through all of the rounds that I got from our neighbor. It's yielded a very nice supply. I want to wait until I have it all mostly split and stacked before measuring and seeing how much we have. There's a "not gonna happen" pile that I'll have to tackle later or use a splitter for. Thankfully, it's not very bit as of yet.

I'll also try and get some pics of the wood that's still left on the ground where they logged. Getting to some of the spots may be a challenge; even with the ATV and trailer. The logging road won't be that difficult to get down. It's the areas beyond that where they used the skidder and forwarder that's going to take some effort. Those machines can almost go through/up/over most anything. But we shall see! I'm determined to not let anything good rot away.

My wife and I finished splitting and stacking today. I haven’t measured it yet for an official tally. Splits are 18” long and double row stacked.

The “Not gonna happen” pile. I’ll need the maul and wedge. Or the saw to do a little noodling.

We talked to this neighbor yesterday and today. He just picked up a sweet 4wd Kubota 33hp loader. It’s a really nice 2015 with 250 hours. He did some brush hogging around their driveway/along our property line; looks amazing. He told my wife and I: “You can borrow it any time! Find some projects and just let me know.” Really lucky to have them as neighbors!

Did a little hiking today to see what’s up back. I’ve been up a few times and wanted to really look and see what I could access with the ATV and trailer.

    Amazing what they leave behind!

Won’t be able to get to these:

This stuff I can get to! Pretty sure they used these logs over wet areas on the skidder road.

There’s more that I didn’t take pics of. With any luck, I can grab a decent amount before the snow flies.
