My understanding is that the main hinderance to the efficiency of this type of OWB is the water jacket and all the heat it pulls out of the firebox pre-maturely. Any thoughts on trying to burn off the wood gas that normally goes out the stack on these?

Other than building a true gassifier not sure how one would go about trying to burn the wood gas at the top of the burn chamber.

For the next go round I plan to pass the flue through the water jacket front to back, forced air and fire brick to get as hot as possible and try to use the flue to transfer heat to the water also.

big thing for me is burn time, and ease of use. My gf feeds the stove while I'm out of town, nothing worse than troubleshooting over the phone.

That's one thing about the gasification setups, burn time doesn't matter when you are extracting all the heat and storing it in a tank. Of course now you have to find a place for this big azz (1000 gal+ usually) tank.

As far as ease of use, I don't run one and neither does my wife. (plain Jane wood stove here). But I would be interested in hearing if they are ever a problem for the lady of the house to operate.

And yeah, phone troubleshooting is terrible! :hair:
