Wow that’s a score and a half! The one time I had locust, it was two big rounds on side of road. heavy heavy heavy! Good work
In case he's not home or doesn't answer the door, bring a note to leave in his mailbox. That's worked for me twice.
Great, Brad, I'm glad you got some! In my area they are weed trees, very common in neglected areas and by the roadside. The grow in groves if unchecked.
Locust is so nice, when i was asplundh i would get a ton of black locust. It was fun throwing that in the back of my chip box, oaks also heavy lifting up into a shoulder high box
Upper management is making me pick out another dump area for rounds/logs because my main storage area is getting really full. I gotta be creeping up on 20 cords
That's a winner. Nice going Brad. I have several standing dead or down locust in the woods. Most of the down stuff has no bark and has zero signs of rot or being punky. Locust is my 2nd fav almost tied with ash.
I've probably got around 6-8 full cord of locust in my stacks, it's one of the bestest woods there is forheat and cosls!! Nice score, Brad! I never pass up locust. All of it ends up in my personal hoard!
Thought it was two or more like oak and hickory. That seems to be the general concensus on the forum? The drying chart here says 24 months.
I was doing some research and it is used as a replacement for mahagony and ipe. Fast growing too. I was surprised how far apart the growth rings were. Longest length was 12' and $7/ft. for 5/4 x 6 deck boards. How common is the center rot/punk/ant infestation JB Sawman ? Seems most of the pics i see of it on here its almost always like that! Usually shys me away from cutting it.
That has been my observation around here...weed trees. Cant say ive ever seen one growing in the woods. What percentage of your wood is locust Midwinter ?
It would be an interesting survey to take amongst members at the end of the year? Cant vote on our own though as much as id like to!
