I was thinking that too. It's been a while since I used one though. Glad to re-confirm.
The General MM is a common one, but I always wondered about it. The chart on the back seems a bit optimistic.

 

This was a fresh split at stove room temp. I’ll split another and check with the grain when people wake up.

This wood was split and stacked outside for possibly a year. It was then brought into the basement where it was basically kiln dried by the beast that is about 6 feet away from the stack. I run a fan on the wood stack when stove wasn’t going.

 

That might explain it. For posterity’s sake, grab a split and split it again and take another reading or three. Had that oak been outside I would say that doing the above would yield different and wetter readings, but given your stack is near the stove and you have a fan on it, then it may just be that dry all the way thru a piece of wood. If so, you’re on to something...stick with it.

As small as your pieces are I don’t expect to see much change given where your stack is, then again I’ve been surprised before.

Warner ........... I don't quite know how to approach you on this matter, but do you think it is possible for me to maybe rent some of that space in your basement to help dry my wood? How much room do you have? What are your rates for space rental?

I do use larger pieces for my indoor stoves also, but the OWB chunks are lucky to get split at all. If I can lift them, they stay unsplit.

You have a good system there for yourself, keep it up!!

 

Makes no difference on mine what so ever, works well and the readings are the same no matter how you stick it.

This was the start of the season. I don’t care much for going out in the snow, ice, wind, wet to fetch firewood.

 

Used to be a guy on Hearth called Battenkiller and he documented how fast he could dry wood with a fan in a basement where the wood stove was, it's amazing how fast you can dry it down in those type of conditions.

 

I never really checked moisture content before. Maybe a couple times when splitting.

This is the way my dad did it in this house when I was growing up. I’ll keep checking as I work down the pile. I’m pretty surprised at the readings. I was on the one year plan when this wood was split.

 

Wow that's a lot of wood inside! Is it just one row deep? Curious, do you ever have problems with bugs/insects?

 

Holy Smokes!!! I can tell he likes spiders and insects. A little ortho max along the front on the floor, the walls, and insects don’t stand a chance.

Warner I hope you burn most of that each year. That could present a serious fire hazard from anything...electrical fire or anything. Just be careful. We like having you around here. If nothing else to stir up crap about using stoves in ice fishing shanties.
( I think that was you.) Ice reports I am getting from a friend in MI are horrible. Little ice where normally there is a lot...and I’ve been hoping to meet up with a friend for my first trip ever on ice.
