If I had a bigger bar, I could probably get another cord out of the locust score, although I successfully chased the trunk off of the parking lot. With my bar, I could get another trunk-load or so. The “spoken for” rounds are still sitting there too. Someone added their Christmas tree to the pile.

What length bar are you using now? If its a 16" it will cut a 14"+/- log in one swath. It can cut up to a 28" log in two passes provided you can access both sides. Can be a PITA as big logs can be intimidating! Backwoods Savage has mentioned this numerous times. I used to do it when all i had was a 16" (all i ever used) on my MS290. The cut may not be "pretty" but this is locust your after!

Think I can w a 16” bar? I though about noodling the open face, but I think that would add a lot of cutting time.

If the diameter is less than 32", then yes. But do you want to? As you say, lots and lots of cutting time. Especially if your cuts from each side don't line up. And for me at least, they seldom do!

Of course you could! You wont know til you try. Give it a shot. Make sure you have clearance under the tree. Looks like it landed on some "cushion" of leaves, vines, vegetation etc which helps. Bring a file to sharpen or extra chain to swap out.
Where the crotch is may pose a problem, but a couple more rounds to be had. Wish i lived closer!
A little work clearing the area, but no PI visible, thorns either.

The rounds I got, I did approach from both sides... but I just layed in to the same cut from the other side. I don’t quite see how they wouldn’t line up. When the chain was dull and the cuts weren’t going as straight, I switched sides more frequently, and it seemed to straighten out the cut overall.

Probably when it gets closer to the 28” limit, the cut direction gets more critical. I would think switching sides more frequently could help you out though.. But, you have a new saw right? So maybe not an issue any more.

I would like to take another crack at the locust trunk. I dropped an email to the pool manager (where the tree fell in their parking lot), but hadn’t heard back yet. The in laws have been in town for January since the holidays. Although I am looking forward to having some more time with the wood pile once they leave, I do enjoy their company.

Yes you can do it, just keep a sharp chain.
