Is this mulberry or possibly hedge? After cutting into rounds my gloves got sticky and the sawdust was a bright yellow. After splitting, the heartwood was yellow with white sapwood. After about a day the yellow started turning a tanish color. The splits were extremely heavy and dense. Any ideas would be great.
No leaves, but this is a larger section of the tree. I've never seen this kind of wood given away for free here in St. Louis. I know it looks similar to locust, but the characteristics aren't what I've experienced in the past with locust.
Mulberry for sure Here's some I had out of a fencerow this spring Then the same little bit exactly 2 weeks later, beautiful color
Yes... that be mulberry... Still not convinced that the first one is mulberry.... without seeing more pictures... the second picture has the character markings of Hedge... the color looks to vibrant for the mulberry that I've split...plus I know Hedge will sap big time... but either way they both are good woods and both will throw firebugs out in the stove....
I agree. It could just be the color balance on my monitor, but that first picture does look more like hedge than mulberry. Too vibrant is a good way to put it.
Yeah I would definitely love to try that but I would just need to get a couple small trees and let em grow.
