I see the dual pipes never go out of style. Here's my first double barrel from like 2005

And after about 10 years of use, the black paint is long gone. Yes that is square chain

I've had and done all the muffler mods over the years. I started using husky 55 outlets on the sides of smaller mufflers, and the 288 deflectors on the larger saws years ago. The hole on the front of husky's sucks. Heat comes right back on you're hand and will burn the bark on big long cuts.

Dolmar 5100 and 7900 cans split and recrimped with cage removed and 288 deflector on the 7900. No reason to cut them and spend 36 dollars in silver solder.

I did a ton of research and testing muff mods on stock and ported saws back in 2006-2007. Not many people used the 288 deflector before that. All the pics from that thread are long gone can't find the thread with timed data and videos. At the time everyone was making outlets 80% of the port area. I kept playing around and came up with 100-120% of the port opening for outlet size. Not sure what the "norm" is now but most outlets I see here are huge. After 110-120% fuel usage went up and time increased in the cuts. These were all non strato saws then.

There is no doubt the larger openings tend to make more power. But I'll sacrifice some power for less noise. I'm to the point where I don't want to run a loud saw...........unless it's only a few cuts.

I have noticed the exact same thing ................... although on some saws, time in the cut didn't suffer as much as on other saws, but fuel usage did start going up above 120% on all of them

Too large will be very loud and actually lose torque. People forget how a two stroke works, or don't know. There has to be some back pressure. This is why an expansion pipe works so well on 2 strokes for making power. gases exit, expand, then get sucked back into the cylinder.

Guess thats why they say they need to be ported to run well.

damm that sucks... What is it for then? 298xp? Thought those were all the same... Let me check and see if I have one left. I had a pile of 2100/2101 parts and not sure if they got sold or not.

Lol was a little sauced last night. Forgot about that post I was gonna come back too. Oil flows into stuff. I still do use ports on that side occasionally but I never set them up to welcome accidental bar oil glugs. Ever since the incident lol

I thought maybe I was the only one that happened to. Real easy to do when the saw is bolted on a mill.
