And here I was thinking all the 70cc saws I've had were duds because they couldn't hang with my 660 in 25" oak. (Nevermind my flat top oh-sixdy-sicks)
I've ported one 460 that would be closer than that to the 660. It lives in Alaska so I can't grab it for more videos. 460 at 13.8k or so and the 660 at 13.2k was pulling a lot harder through that maple.
I'm thinking that might to apply to stock or mildly modified saws (like a muffler mod). Once someone gets in there with a carbide and starts tweaking ports and timing, all bets are off.
Don't 50-70cc class saws all turn similar rpms? But torque on a 50cc is nowhere near the torque on a 70cc saw.??
My ms390 (64 CC) is spanked by my husky 372xp (71cc) in any size wood! Maybe 3" stuff its close? But neither is in the wood for much more than a second?
Because it ain't. Why does a 346XP embarrass just about everything else in 6-8" wood? Chain speed, that's why. There is so much more to this equation than power head output. It's a mix of RPMs/torque, sprocket size, chain type/geometry and the wood itself. And all of that assumes the chain is sharp to begin with.
A sharp chain on a good running stock saw will beat a ported saw with a new or dull chain. Got videos of that stuff also.
I got my 8 pin in the mail this week (Thanks Dexter ) So I had to go check it out. I'll have to put the other one to see the difference, since I didn't have much experience originally. But I do know one thing, this thing will chew through some wood either way. I made a couple videos, but can get them to down load. So I'll have to get on the computer to get them done. But I'm lovin' this thing....
Me and Emma always have a pair of these Stanley radio muffs on when cutting Go on sale quite often and on a clear day i can get Tokyo
First I hear of running other than 50:1 in a saw. I have about 20 gallons of fuel run through my 460 and it seems to be fine. With the same bar and chain and sprocket my 460 seems to cut faster than my 660. I've never timed it though.
Well can't edit again. Darn site is NOT iPhone friendly! I wanted to add I use the Stihl synthetic oil.
Didnt notice it in the picture? Mrs loon gets them at the dollar store and there are a whack of them around here
Yep most ported guys are running 32-40:1 synthetic based on advice from the builders. Personally I have never run (other than one tank of 2 gallons) anything other than 40:1. As Randy said that 50:1 is epa bull chit. There was a thread of documented failure ata different rate. I mixed some 32:1 and visually and performance wise see no difference than 40:1 , and 40:1 is accepted by the pros as fine as well. Think about it Stumble for all those years , I'm talking after the 32:1 factory days, produced saws species at 40:1 then all of a sudden went to 50:1 ? Why ? The saws were basically the same and the years I'm talking about so were the oils. They did it for air quality mandates. Everything 2 stroke I owns has run 40:1 in it syn or semi syn oil. That is accept the CC boat. It runs mostly dino and sometimes semi oil in it. I'm talking a boat that I premix for. The other bass boat has a oil injector. And when I take the notion and buy the parts its getting ripped off and replaced with a standard fuel pump as those early years were known failure spots. Dont want to toast that v6 power head. Jonny rude also use to be 40:1 then overnight specs all their motors to 50:1 , hmmmmm? As for hearing , I try and wear muffs all the time and if I remember I grad the "singing" muffs when at all possible. And trust me with a muffler modded 660 he is still hearing the saw plenty !! I am with my 650 I know!
