I might... If its anything like my cs310 then there is a cat in the muffler. All I did was drilled the cat out and used a dremel to clean the cat chamber up. Then I added four 1/4 inch holes to the chamber. On the front I took the exhaust diflector off and opened the whole to the full size that would fit under the diflector. It woke that 310 right up.... Shes a screamer now for being a little saw and i lt runs far better! The only issue that it really needs to warm up now for a minute in order to get the fuel flowing. I just hold the throttle until it warms up. Only need to do that once if your cutting all day it will fire every time smooth the rest of the day.

MasterMech so I took the muffler off today to get started and than the kids wanted to play. My question is do I need to put the spark arrestor back on?

The screen is optional. The deflector I highly recommend putting back.

Yea yea should have just said screen. Thought I didn't need it but saw a few pics in the other threads that had them reinstalled. I am planning on taking a little off the deflector too.

Don't be shy taking material off the deflector. On the 390, I took the entire depressed area out, completely bypassing the baffles inside and cut the deflector back as far as I could and have it look decent.

Can you recommend a decent tach. I don't fully trust my ears on this one. To many younger years without earplugs.:dex:

Going to copy paste some info from a thread on CR. So you have some info here on it.

    If I couldnt find a EDT-5 like I have or PET 1000 http://www.npelectronicsindia.com/pet-1000-tachometer.htm

or OPPAMA PET-1100 Tachometer maker of the older stihl EDT-5

    http://www.amickssuperstore.com/OPPAMA_PET_1100_Tachometer_p/oppama pet-1100 tach.htm

    http://www.amickssuperstore.com/OPPAMA_PET_1000_Tachometer_p/oppama pet-1000 tach.htm

    OPPAMA PET-1000 Tachometer

If I couldnt get above I would get the one below.

    http://www.amickssuperstore.com/DTI...chometer_Tach_p/dti tech-tach tt-20k tach.htm

Get a .5 refresh rate tach. The 1.5 sec refresh rate from Baileys and EDT 7-8 are to slow for the money. There is a cheapie tach that is 2.5 sc refresh rate and cost $20-$25, it works, accurate but is slow.

Older no longer available tachs like the Stihl EDT-5, DET-302, DET-303, Echo-1000 or 1100 (same as EDT-5). If you find one grab it.

Still available TT-20 and Tiny Tach are all .5 refresh rate and cost $85

If I couldnt find a EDT-5 like I have, I would buy one of these new. Amick's link below.

Per a trusted stihl man Lakeside.

EDT-7 and 8 tachs will work with all previous Stihl ignitions, as well as the new IEM MS 280, and all future models that have dual magnets in the flywheel. All previous tachs including the EDT-5 will not work on IEM units.

The EDT-7 has a mode button that will allow selecting different engine ignition systems, but this feature is not required on Stihl products. Might be useful on your generator or other engines though...

The EDT-8 has no mode features, and will work with all STIHL products.

These tach do not refresh the display as fast as the EDT-5

I think this is the company that used to make the EDT-5 for Stihl and the Echo 1000. I havent a clue what one would cost or where to get one. looks updated with all the front buttons in pic.

Links have went bad, need to search for them now.

    PET 1000 http://www.npelectronicsindia.com/pet-1000-tachometer.htm

This is one of the older made for stihl ones too, was DET 302 . PET 302 http://www.npelectronicsindia.com/digital-engine-tachometer.htm

See they are selling the OPPAMA PET-1100 Tachometer maker of the older stihl EDT-5 http://www.amickssuperstore.com/OPPAMA_PET_1100_Tachometer_p/oppama pet-1100 tach.htm

Since it's only my saw would a cheapy tach with hour meter work. Not looking to spend a lot and hopefully only tune it according to weather.

Do a muffler modd on it where you cut that front of the muffler out. You will hear it plenty easy then

It would work but they are so slow to hold WOT 2.5 seconds for a read. Plus has to use wire attached. $20
I like the .5 read. wireless or wire choice $90

1.5 to slow for the same money as the .5. All JMO

I have a Stihl EDT-7, it works, and works well. But the refresh is a bit slow for my liking. If I get another, it's prob going to be the DTI Fast Tach.
