I ordered new pawls and the saw is not wanting to pull smoothly; I think it is worst now. I tried it with both one and two pawls. I tested before I put the pull cover back on and the pawl(s) were going in and out without any issues. Could it be something else?

Yup, the flobber-knocker assembly is probably shot. Order a new one...

Take the spark plug out and move the flywheel by hand with the starter off and see if it is moving freely. It should only show resistance when you are at the coil and when moving away from the coil. Other wise it should move smoothly.

And if it don't pull over like nothing with the plug out and recoil assemble confirmed operational you may have some mechanical issue there like piston gouging out the walls of the cylinder or bearings grinding up.

What oil ratio are you running? What kind of oil?

I am running it at the 50:1 mix. I was using the little bottles that a member gifted me but ran out and purchased 2cycle oil from WalMart. I made sure to measure properly and add the proper amount of fuel.

I will take the plug out tomorrow and do the checks outlined.

I hope nothing has happened to The Beast; I really like the saw.

You may want to just pull the muffler off, and take a peak at the piston and cylinder through the exhaust port. This will give you confirmation of any damage to the exhaust side, and intake side of the top end. Also, while you have the muffler off, take a look at it for carbon build up internally, primarily on the screen.

Everything looks normal on the clutch side of things? Clutch drum should spin freely with the bar/chain removed.

One other thing you might try Kimberly is to take the starter off and take a picture of the starter pulley and the flywheel and someone here might spot something that is not right.

I haven't looked yet but I do have photos I took yesterday. While I mixed 50:1, my friend told me last night that he mixed 40:1. I don't know how many tanks of 40:1 went through the saw. Would 40:1 cause an issue in the MS290?

40:1 is what I run in all of my saws, Old and New.......tuned properly, it is cheap insurance in preventing damage.

I did not have time to work on the saw; having to work on the front brakes of my car; it is no fun being without transport.

I still say flobber-knocker. Isn't the first, won't be the last.

Flobber knockers are always breaking at the worst time.

Excessive strain on the fliberty gibet is the usual cause.

Usually, that's BS. Flobber knocker damage is ALWAYS caused by fliberty gibet neglect.
