So was the "old " condenser bad? If so why would you have kept it? What are the chances that both are all of a sudden bad?
The old was kept from the last time; a couple of year back, that I replaced the points and condenser in the tractor. The old condenser reads a constant ohm value. The one I put in acted more like a condenser; a condenser is a capacitor; the name is left over from when all capacitors were called condensers. I don't have a meter to test capacitors for their value and I don't even know the value, so I did an ohm meter test. I read on a few tractor forums yesteerday that the brands I have been putting in are not known for their values; I got them off fleabay. I will probably pull everything back off and check again. Napa did list one in stock for $12.99; that is a bit of an ouch price.
It's also 2016 and not 1962 things increase in cost and your talking a rare specialty part now a days. Sure there easy to make and still probably container loads of them around but supply demand thing.
The cheaper ones are around $6.00; so that is double the price but sometimes it is better to pay double and get the quality. The points are $16.00 at Napa. I paid that for the points and condenser for the cheaper quality. Look at it in this light, if you are making $3500.00 a month then $12.99 probably doesn't seem like much at all; however, when you are only making $130.00 a month then that $12.99 is a lot of money. It is all about perspectives.
Yep. And I hope your making more than $130 a month cause I sure have no idea how you can pay power, have a car and eat, let alone saw gas and parts!! Charge it if you have to to get the tractor and saw running. Sell some firewood and quadruple your monthly income.
Just8Ns has a condenser for $3.97 but that has to be one of the cheap quality ones. I think the problem is the front mount distributor, it mounts flush against the front of the tractor facing the radiator. I think they die due to heat buildup. By the late 8Ns they had moved to the side mount distributors with the round coils which was much better. Dad modified the setup to use a round coil instead of the top mount; probably because it went bad and he had a round coil on hand. Sometimes a bit more money does come in; in fact, I need to bill for some "repair" work; was waiting to see if the customer was going to install a mod or not. Getting people to pay can be the hard part.
OK, just ordered a set from Rock Auto; points and condenser, Standard line. Total cost with shipping was $20.85 and was $10 cheaper than Napa; yes, will have to wait a few days for them to arrive but the $10 can go towards bar oil which I am low on.
It is not easy but I am managing; nice folks on here have helped me out as well. I pay back when I can.
Hope you used the 5% off coupon!! Just Google it if you can't find one in your email (if you ordered from them before). Plus buying online you don't have to drive t store saving fuel
Not sure how you can do it? My power bill alone was over $300 last month. Heck without heat or AC it will still be in the $130 range.
No AC, unless I absolutely need to cool the bedroom off to get to sleep; those 97F days required it but lately no AC. I run it for two hours to cool the bedroom, window AC and then turn it off. I am managing to keep it around $57 a month unless I run ACs. Last bill was $119.90 for two months, I got behind on the payment. No cable, no Sat, bare bones living. Raise a garden, I don't go anywhere unless I have to and I combine trips when possible to save petrol. Yes, Auto insurance is a biggie; that is twice a year. I can do a lot of repairs myself, so that saves money. Frugal living.
Yes, I found the 5% coupon; not much on such a small order but hey, it all adds up, I saved $0.94 with the coupon.
My farm property has a $35 bill with nobody there! Just a fridge and freezer plugged in and like 2 CFL bulbs half the night.
I am self employed trying to run an IT shop at home. Web servers, file servers, website design, that sort of thing. Lot's of people just use Facebook but that is very limited; if one really needs a community portal they should consider sitting up a dedicated one outside of something like Facebook. Take the forum here, it would not nearly be as nice or organised if ran on Facebook.
Got the front tyre off the tractor; it was rusted on and a job to remove. I was bad, I let The Old Girl sit outside for years in the weather while going through a bad patch. She doesn't sit in the weather any more. The shop got the tyre off and saw rust on the rim; needed a new tube. He wire brushed the rim and said it was still good. Remounted tyre, new tube, inflated, good to go. Total charge was $12.95; tube was $8.95, $3.00 for the job. I was thinking it was going to be $20.00 with the new tube. He will certainly have my business when I get the money for new tyres.
Love places that still can give service at a cheap price. I needed a tube in a mower tire. I tried one. Got tube pinched and twisted. Gave up and took to my shop. He was less to sell me a tube and install it vs me buying the tube. I bought the rear tube for me tractor from him as well. Cheaper than I could of bought one myself. Plus they put it in.
Secret is to put a bit of air in the tube when installing, then you can let it out when seating the tyre in place; check, double check. Small tyres are harder than larger types when it comes to replacing tubes. When I was a kid, I pinched the tube when fixing my bike; I had to have a failure to teach me a lesson. I watched them repair a small tyre while waiting; the rim was wide and looked to be off some type of racing cart or something; it certainly was not a mower; but it was small in diameter.
I have done plenty of bike tube I'm my life no issue other than pinching it with a screwdriver dismounting one time to make 2 holes to patch vs one
