Sure does. Nobody is trying to drive good members away, that's for sure.

    Yup.

Once the chain has seen the file, it has been changed.. For the better? Or to it's detriment... Could go either way..
The human element, of all the forces at play here, is the most extreme..
The file, under the direction of the human, can take something relatively consistent and decent, made by a machine, and improve it, like on that loop of square..
But, in another set of hands, reduce it's cutting ability...
I joke about using "the force" when square filing, but have found, if I ain't into it, the chain ain't gonna be as good..
I'm the variable at that point..

Yep. Filing a chain is the most important part of making a good chain or bad one. Some days I can file 3 or 4 loops and not get bored and other days a couple teeth and I just quit and do something else.

All I know, even round filed chain I get in from firewood cutters is bad bad bad. They wouldnt even come close to the crap off the reel. 99% have no clue touching up their chains. When I ask such things as angles, raker heights etc they havent a clue what I am asking them.

After seeing all sorts of sharpenings on used chainsaws, I began to wonder about my own? I knew I wasn't perfect but was getting by.

I started using the Oregon sliding frame jigs. I felt better about my chains.

I eventually came across both square and round grinders. I feel even better.

Chain sharpening is still a strive for perfection.

I never knew so many people had trouble sharpening until I got onto the forums. All the people I was around were old loggers or family members of loggers and could sharpen chain great.

What I feared, early on, was maintaining the top angle using the guide plates. I tended to be off a couple degrees from left to right.

Didn't really bother anything but my pride.

I didnt have a clue at one time either and would just get them good enough to keep them cutting. I used to drop my other chains off in town for a couple day turn around. But after my chains kept coming back with burnt blued cutters I starting learning how to take care of my chains by hand filing better.

Then I got a USG after I got tired of guys dropping off 10-12 rocked out chains at a time for me to do by hand. Just no money in it like that on rocked out stuff for my time involved. USG fixed that problem and they are still happy with the results.
    Still only $5 a chain.

I'm too analysis to leave them that far off. A lot of file handles have 30° shoulder or 25 and 30. Easy to check with them. If I file a tooth now that looks funny I'll check and refill it.

Same here... Too many neighbors dropping off destroyed chains to file by hand..
    Grinder time...
I touch my own up with a file.. Unless I have an "Event"..

Yes I was catching the variations upon close checking with the file plate witness marks. Then I would try to correct and worry about consistent cutter lengths etc.

Gee, you mean I am not the only one here PO'd that I cannot add MasterMech to my FHC ignore list? Highly amusing.

That is the main reason I stopped posting on this forum a while back, and the main reason that I do not post here much any more.

Aside from that, is there someone here that can get me some PS or PS3 loops made up, round filed, and what is the cost with shipping?

I use Picco/low profile on my 211 and my 026 saws. I got an original large mount picco bar for it from an 024. They are hard to get in the US west. Some dealers in the east list the 16 inch, the 18 and 20 inch seem impossible to find in the US any more. Logosol and Stihl reportedly stopped selling them in the states for liability reasons. They sell a kit in Germany for the 261 with a picco bar, loop and rim drive and the guys there rave about it.

Dunno if I am banned here or not. Scotty keeps welcoming me back on this site, but I keep bumping into the same old 'stuff' here. Forums should be run by one ruthless dictator, not by a growing committee. My $0.02 cents worth.

Tried shooting you 3 pm's now. You have a black X by avatar and black line through name. You have your PM's set not to receive or something?
