Moving firewood ‘26/‘27

Have the weekend to myself and decided to start the traditional filling of the basement. I got 3 full trailers thrown in my well area and it stuffed it.
This wood is chestnut oak from 7/‘22, so plenty dry.

 

I'll be moving a face cord to the deck over the next week or so.

 

After this weekend, the prediction is for lows in the 50’s pretty consistent. We’re not too far off the start of the season. I had to wait for cool temps. We had a high of about 75 today.

 

Jason, I thought you got away from 22” splits awhile ago ?
Or are these just “old stock” ?

 

Yes I’ve been cutting 16” to eventually run splits E/W in the firebox. I have several years of the long stuff to get through. Really killer on the hands because they are so heavy. Time to break out the Voltaren.

Way to gettir done Jason. That CO makes some nice firewood. Did you put a MM to any? Just curious of the MC after 4+ years asleep?

 

Still dealing with medical issues, but finally after 3 1/2 years or so, found a place in Annapolis, Md. that is figuring things out.
What really sucks is I got a whole table full of ported pro saws from 3 of the best builders we know. And I can’t run em..
I also have a chitload of dead Oak in my woods, some great firewood making. Machines/tools, yet, I’ve been buying wood for the last 4 years or so…

 

Glad you found somebody able and willing to help you! Can be a rarity Hope for tomorrow! Can’t wait to hear about you getting out and running those saws in your woods soon

3 more trailer loads thrown in today. Stacking will have to wait. Hands are screaming at me and my right elbow said slow down, lol.

After 24 hours indoors:

 

This was primarily dead standing oak from my honey hole. A lot of it could have been used in a year or two but since I have so much, it waits. Just gives more time for the sap wood to disintegrate. Sure does make a mess.
Couple years ago I got checked for carpal tunnel. They said I didn’t have it. I do have the beginnings of Mr Arthur Riteus and get tennis elbow if I over do it. Right is always the one to speak up first.
I’m getting help to stack the rest in the basement. Pics to come, hoping those last 3 were a full cord.

 

Do any OTC's help? I have scrip for 800mg ibuprofen which I try not to rely on. Ill take maybe a couple times weekly maybe? Refills have long expired so it shows how little I use it. She says I should take more often rather than tough it out.

 

I had an infection in my L wrist the last 3 weeks plus a L elbow glitch. I went to a walk in clinic on Labor Day because I can’t have anything slowing down firewood. It was painful af and limited function. I thought it was tendinitis so the PA prescribed a steroid. It made it better, but as soon as I finished the steroid it got worse. Next I went to an orthopedic doctor and he suspected infection from a foreign object so he prescribed amoxicillin. Finally my wrist and hand got better. I think I can live with the elbow glitch. He did point out the arthritis bone spur on my wrist. I’m sure the elbow also has a spur.
I told the doc I was hoping he could just hose the tendons with cortisol. He said there’s too much important chit in your wrist to just stick needles in it. Apparently there’s a major nerve and artery.
Just commiserating with the struggles of advanced age hoarders.

 

I can relate my friend. Last year my right hand started shaking when I would move it slightly. I couldn't stop it unless I really focused and or grabbed it with my other hand. Hard to eat as it shook while holding a fork. Kinda funny and embarrassing at the same time. Thought I might have Parkinsons or something. Doctor said no with the pain and loss of strength its the elbow. Bought a brace and if it helps I don't really notice. Waiting for PT if that will help. Until then I deal with it, use a smaller saw and hoard Goldilocks wood where I can! I wont mention my back or hips! Of course the way I hoard doesn't help.

The only otc that works is the Voltaren gel. If I apply 3-4 times a day, it helps. Pills don’t seem to do chit.
Compression seems to help too. I have compression sleeves for my elbows that I wear and gloves with the tips cut out. I sleep with wrist braces if it gets too bad. Think it might be a blood flow thing as I noticed when I keep my hands flattened and wrists straight I get relief.

 

I hear fent is great for all ailments.
