Simce the begining of this poll, I have split on site a couple times now. I rather prefer that, when time constraints, or thuggary are not issues. Handling smaller pieces is always ok: loading, unloading stacking...no picking up....or being tempted to pick up pieces that are too big.

As stated above, if moving twood is the priority, rounds is fine. But even then, I'd rather split/noodle to manageable sizes.

    Awesome question, good poll!

I’d love to have that much on hand but doubt I’ll have the time to hoard that much:( I’m pursuing more and more tree work and doing less and less firewood. I’d be pretty happy if I could hoard 100 face cord this winter.

Id like to do more tree work too. A lot more money than firewood. Plus you get "free" wood from tree work. 100 face cord is an impressive amount. How far along are you to that goal? Any more cutting at that score you were working last Winter?

Advantage of splitting in the woods is less debris in the wood yard, being in the woods longer or more often is a bonus too. With the utv though, I see no reason to run back to the house with an empty bed, so there is a bot of schizophrenia with the way I do it.
If I have a bunch of rounds in a close area, I split away and return with the Bannon trailer.

Crazy the amount of people who want tree work done around here! Do you pursue tree jobs or take them as people approach you/hear that you do them? At this point, I’m working a day a week sometimes two with my buddy that does tree work to get additional experience and trying to do one tree job a week for myself, but everything for myself up to now is word of mouth. I’d like to purchase a chipper this year, and I feel like once I do that, I’ll get insurance and push even harder. Well see where it goes! I just work 3 days a week with my current job so it leaves ample time for other endeavors. I’m putting everything I earn with firewood and tree work into equipment, so I can be as efficient as possible with the tree work. There’s plenty more firewood to cut back where I was last year. I’m planning a cutting day next weekend with my brother and a buddy. I’ve got to cut quite a bit more to reach 100 face cord for the season!
