My Dad called me this morning and told me he was going to bring his FEL over to my sisters - the plan was to get the walnut cut back to the main trunk, so my BIL could get some of his yard back. So I loaded up the gear and headed over there. I got a call from him about 5 mins after I got there - he was having a hydraulic issue and wouldn't be able to make it. My BIL was working overtime today too, but I wasn't going to waste the trip. Besides, I rather enjoy working alone , and the lack of hydraulic assistance has rarely slowed me down. I cut another 1/2 to 2/3 cord of the firewood for them, and took another load of saw logs. Then I moved the rest of the pieces closer to the main trunk. I had a little help from my nephew Lincoln - he loves helping with the firewood.
That's a big walnut. Glad you had some help on it. What will you make with the logs? Some beautiful wood there.
I'm not even sure yet - hopefully a lifetime of projects! There's a burl that's almost 3' around too. There's 2 really nice -huge- logs, and the base of the trunk is going to have some really great slabs I think with the huge crotches that it had. There's still a lot of work to be done over there!
