Wow, making it with your 28" bar was close! Would it have come down anyway, if a couple inches were uncut in the middle? Would you have had to chain it and pull it with your truck? I've never cut down a tree, so I have no experience with situations like that.
    Very handsome dog!

very well done sir! Is that the biggest tree youve ever felled? How much do you think it'll yield? Looks like a whole seasons worth of wood.

    Yes, my biggest.
I’m hoping that it will yield a whole season’s worth, I’ve burned probably around 2 1/2 cords so far this season. But it’s been pretty mild.
It’ll be nice if I can get 3 cords out of it.
Yesterday was in the upper 40s, today is supposed to hit 50. Awesome wood gathering weather.

Hoping to get the other pickup and trailer loaded today & most of the rest bucked into rounds, then I can go out with a couple Coleman lanterns and split in the dark after work. Got to stay after it because In about 3 weeks the owner will be calving in there & looks like I’ll be out of town next weekend.

When you first posted pictures, i was asking how i would tackle it. I was dropping the three individual stalks then the trunk.
36" bar for my MS460 (77cc). Dropped a couple with that bar.
How dry is the wood? Did you put a MM to it?

I prefer below freezing, dry and sunny, with little wind. Battle of the mud around here now. Only a hand full of days with frozen ground which i think has been the problem for a lot of other hoarders!

The mud is a terrible battle here. It shut down my hoarding this weekend.

not nearly as dry as I’d hoped. Some of the bigger rounds had water squeeze out when the splitter hit em, 4-6” stuff up high is pretty good

I thought about doing individual stalks but would have to work off a ladder or pickup bed, or something else elevated. To big and no way to escape if it went awry

    Never felled a tree?

That should be rectified! At the gtg, large or small, wherever it is.

Hit it again today. Got the other pickup (gold one) loaded with stuff dry enough to burn right away. I’m out of wood in the basement so it’ll go straight to the stack by the stove. Mostly smaller stuff, guessing 1/3 cord. I’ll measure it once stacked neatly.
Got done what I set out to do today, but seems like slow progress. Peeling off the loose bark and beating on it till it comes loose is time consuming. Plus the cleaning up:picard:
near as I could measure it must have been around 55-60 ft tall

Today’s progress report... got another bigger (fuller) load in the gold pickup.
Got a bit of snow overnight so was an ideal day to burn the 2 trash piles and rake up bark & twigs. Very little saw time today, mostly splitting and burning.
Got 2 pickups and a pickup box trailer to unload and stack before I can get more.
Probably be unloading and stacking by Coleman lanterns tomorrow night.
Oh and the load on the green pickup weighed #1700

Nice work SHB! You're really kicking azz. An impressive amount of work so far. Great feeling isnt it? Must be cool to be able to burn the brush, bark etc, especially while working there. Cant do that around here.

I did actually get a burn permit and call it in To region 26 though, just a formality really. In case a passerby see smoke and calls it in they can look and see it’s ok and not call out the volunteer fire department
