More questions on soapstone stoves

I would like to add a nice pellet stove to the house. The pellet gives you smoke free "stealth" burning. Steady heat, and thermostatic heat during the shoulder seasons. Plus, I know women can do it but my wife leaves wood burning to me. She could load a hopper. Oh and many pellet stoves give you longer burns at higher outputs than my BK. Doug fir pellets in my area are still under 200$ per ton.

 

Are those flue temps. inside or outside (using a probe or a magnetic thermometer on the outside)?

I am assuming those are internal temps. 'cause at 1,000 F the steel would be a bright red and sorta' scary IMO.

Flue gas temps of course, measured with a probe but not a fancy digital thermocouple. I saw that hearthstone run the probe meter up to 1200 more than once. The folks with thermocouples did some testing to find that once you get over 1000 that the condar probe meters were about 10% off.

 

I have to agree with you on the condar probe thermometer, mine is a cat therm and I'd say it's off maybe more than 10%.
